My Thanks To Acid (long)
Okay, first of all, lemme just say that in the middle of august, I went to a massive, three day long music festival. Five stages, music almost twenty four hours a day, and tons of drugs; more of a rave, really. Anyways, I'd wanted to go to it for awhile cause my bro always talked about how sweet it is, and this was the first year i was able to go.
Before I went to it, I'd always been a very reserved, kinda loner sorta guy. I had a few friends and I'd sorta chit chat with everyone at school, but I'd never let anyone really get to know me. Why? Because i was scared, I guess. Scared of what? I dunno. Rejection, embarassment, humiliation, I suppose. I'd always sit at home on the weekends, by myself, lonely and miserable. Depression runs in my family, and that's what would always keep me from letting people know the real me. I'd put on an act for everyone.
So I go to this rave, and on the third night (we went a day early) I dropped a capsule of MDMA. About an hour later, my bro hooked me up with some acid. After awhile it kicked in, and it was really fun and funny. My gum turned to gooey liquid and melted into my gums. That was just the start of a soon to be life altering experience.
At first I thought acid was just something to make you feel funny, but as the night progressed, I explored the inner realms of my mind more and more. I was thinking about stuff I'd always locked away in the back of my brain. Stuff i'd never wanted to ever think about, ever; that's why it was locked up. Soon, i couldn't stop thinking about this stuff, it just wouldn't go away! The rest of the night is kind of a blur.
So fast forward a little while, I really learnt alot from that trip. People aren't gonna come and be my friend, i've gotta go make friends with them. Nobody's gonna wanna be friends with a stupid little twat that sits at home all day wondering why he's so miserable. That guy isn't going to be a very good friend.
So I decided to turn my life completely around, go meet people, be happy, look on the positive side, have fun, and most of all: do whatever the fuck i wanna do. If my few friends don't like it, they can fuck right off. I'm gonna be me, whether people like it or not and so far, it's been working pretty well. I'm not even sure if i ever want to take acid again, because, well, that was such a great experience and changed me so much, that I think that should be my experience with acid. I know I'll probably dose up again, but probably not for awhile.
I was drug out of depression, and turned my life around completely (so far atleast), all because of one little piece of paper, soaked with acid. Thank you.

It wasn't Carrington, was it mate? If it was, good job. It's good to hear when people go out, expand themselves, and make an experience positively affect their lives.

Re: My Thanks To Acid (long)
I think the real test of psychedelics is what you do with them when you're not on them, what kind of culture you build, what kind of art, what kind of technologies... What's lacking in the Western mind is the sense of connectivity and relatedness to the rest of life, the atmosphere, the ecosystem, the past, our children's future. If we were feeling those things we would not be practicing culture as we are.

Good for you. I was in a somewhat similar position and found that ecstacy greatly helped my situation. I've only taken 2 and 3 hits of acid before but I plan on taking 7-8 in the near future for similar reasons.

Re: My Thanks To Acid (long)
A similar thing happened to me a number of years ago.
I would sit at home and wonder why no one wanted to hang out with me. Then I came to the very conclusion you did and made more of an effort to be a friend. Soon after I was regularly getting (and making) calls to go out and do stuff with people.
You get what you give.

It was a mostly a rock concert actually. You would have to line up hours ahead of time if you wanted in the dj tents to hear any sort of "electronic" music. With 40 000 people that made it almost impossible unless your idea of a good time is standing outside in the 35 degree sun with a bandanna covering your face drowning in a pool of your own sweat.

It ended on the eleventh and it was pretty much exclusivley electronic music (spare a few bands). bought my ticket early for $167 in may or something. I'm pretty sure we're thinking of the same one. Live in the EKs.
I know it seems like something really obvious, but i never woulda figured it out if it weren't for acid. It wasn't even a very fun trip during the night, but I learnt alot afterwards.
