Re: .45-70
Inside of 200 yards, I'd rather be castrated by a dull blade than shot by one.
Outside that range though bullet drop is a bitch.

Re: .45-70
I wouldn't really wanna use it in home defense, it's just to big.
For hunting, i'd say its a good round. It's a little big for deer, or at least i think it is, but i've hunted deer with it. I never shot one with it though.
If you get one, reload for it. All the factory ammo is downloaded so they don't blow up older guns that are still being used.

Re: .45-70
Defence would be out since they're typically quite long, have a very limited mag capacity (not that you'd need more than one if it was a solid hit ) and would be very dangerous if you have neighbours or anyone else living in your house. I'd imagin it would do pretty well as a hunting round with larger deer species and buffalo ect, although myself i'd rather buy a .458 win mag or .458 Lott (Which you can still use win mag rounds in) same caliber just a better round IMHO.

Re: .45-70
General question about W&C, do some of you use this place as your first port of call if you need bread fuckoff questions like that answered or do you at least do some reading on the question first elsewhere? Sometimes I read the first post of threads and have instant palm-face action.
As for the 45-70, great on large realtivly harmless game.
