| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Patriot Day
Does it bother anyone else that we mourn on this day? I'm sure it bothers some that a day like this is even used for politics. But if you really think about it, aren't the terrorists winning when we stop our everyday lives for this day?
Probably one of the main reasons why they did this was because we are pretty damn arrogant. We walk into foreign countries and play with their governments and resources. If we really wanted to show the terrorists they aren't going to affect us, shouldn't we have just built the same exact buildings that were taken down and pretend like it didn't happen? Like whatever they did only felt like a small draft to us instead of a punch to the face.
If anything, that would have really pissed them off. It would have told them that all of that planning and money they had invested was for nothing. But they get to see the bullshit thats airing on TV today and think, "Yeah we got them. Its 7 years after the building fell their still crying about it!" Its probably not helping that our main political parties talk about it so much either. Like its actually a political issue, when we shouldn't make it an issue at all, other than getting whoever funded and planned it.

Re: Patriot Day
Well, have you seen the designs for the "Freedom tower"? It does look pretty good. Although the name and the height (1,776 feet exactly) are pretty cheese.
Hopefully they mount some sam launchers on the top.

Re: Patriot Day
I've seen the "freedom tower" and its shit. It would have been better to build the WTC all over again, but taller and stronger.

Re: Patriot Day
Actually the plans for the Freedom Tower got scrapped because the design was pretty flawed in that the base was poorly designed to withstand car bomb attacks. Like the whole thing would collapse if a van just pulled up to its ground level passageway and exploded. It was pretty stupid design too. Like there were going to put a zoo or some shit at the very top. WTF?

No, I think they added some strengthening to the lower levels. It's not cancelled.

Re: Patriot Day
I saw a slideshow of images from 9/11 yesterday and it got to me a little. I saw the sheer terror in everyone. Not a "national blow" or some nonsense, just so many people suffering so much. It's really easy to put it away in a box and say 'oh how horrible, I guess' or wrap it up in politics, so in that sense formal memorialization is downright sick.
If you're going to "remember," remember that for a great many people it will forever be the worst day of their lives, and there's nothing anybody can do to compensate them.

Re: Patriot Day
Pay for the towers with captured afghan opium money and terrorist groups frozen assets.
You broke it you pay for it.
