Question Trojans & Gnu/Linux.

I'm quite careful about what sites I visit, but recently I've been thinking about something. I remember, I was serving the internet on my windows machine and I had got infected by a Tojan, just by merely clicking on a url.

So I'm wondering how effective would these Trojans be, if I just happened to visit a Trojan infected site whilst running Gnu/Linux. How far would the trojan make it?

Default Re: Trojans & Gnu/Linux.

What I meant by how far will it get is, will the Trojan itself reside on the Gnu/Linux box and just remain inactive?

Something has to happen right? Surely you cannot just click a dangerous site and the Tojan finds no way to execute itself and then just backs off, as if nothing has happened.

I'm not talking so much about how dangerous it can be to my Gnu/Linux, but also what process actually takes place when this box is confronted by a Windows Trojan.

I have wine'd viruses before and they've done shit.

WORST POSSIBLE CASE they exploit a firefox bug cross-platform and fuck up your user account or firefox. (this is why we don't run things as root).

Well, the OS basically just sees it as a binary file - a lump of data, that isn't in the right format to execute. The system will just not run it.
