It's not the speed. I don't know if you've ever used a windows, but there's an option to disable the acceleration (not speed) so that for x distance, it will ALWAYS move y distance on the screen, not pending the rate at which you move the mouse. Trust me, I've searched and searched and searched the net. The next best option is to just jack it up to as max as I can (which is convenient with my mouse since it has a sensitivity 'on the fly' button to max it out) and not move it that fast.
Like with most computers, if there's any acceleration at all, it goes more like this: ......-----''''''' whereas the Mac goes like this: .-''''''''''''''''
