Who uses VMWare?
And what OS do you use with it?
I use Ubuntu 6.10, found it on my floor, but I ordered 8.04 or whatever just before?

Re: Who uses VMWare?
Well, if i had a decent system i would do things few people think about but since i am using P3 ghz + 512 Mb Ram. My choices are limited. I use for testing ISO files everything which can be booted.

Re: Who uses VMWare?
I use VMWare for numerous purposes. I use it to help in making portable versions of applications, to run software I think might be a virus or trojan, and to play around with operating systems I don't trust on my bare hardware.
I originally tried Windows Vista in two or three virtual machines simultaneously, in different editions, with the minimum RAM requirements (so it took 1.5GB of memory). I've run Win98, WinXP, Win2k3, Debian GNU/Linux, Fedora Core, FreeBSD and a number of other systems.
It's more convenient for some things than installing the operating systems on bare hardware and rebooting to change OS's. Combining it with being able to pause the VM (basically the same as hibernate mode on a real machine), you have a convenient system.

No -- I don't have enough memory for that usage, nor enough disk space.
I'll have to settle for just using them so I can run old programs (not supported by XP/Vista) and newer ones (not supported by Win98), and programs and utilities for *nix systems.

Re: Who uses VMWare?
i use virtual pc, vm ware, and virtual box. in either one of those i generally run just about any os. i like using them to test out live cd's and junk. my host os is vista, so sometimes at work i use my laptop to fire up xp or 2k or whatever to help a customer over the phone solve a os problem. it helps for visual aid and junk.
