Default was prescribed temazepam and lexapro

i went to the doctors today to continue my long line of depression complaints and it was a new doctor (not new to being a gp he was rather old) i needed more valium so i asked for some, problem is his whole heartedly against benzo's saying there not useful for depression. well i specifically say that i was on aropax (fluexotine, its an ssri) for 6 months and they did nothing. so he says hell put me on lexapro and i tell him there the same thing, both ssri's and both completely useless compared to benzo's but he says there different and tada im prescribed them, then he prescribes me temazepam for sleep problems... its a benzo, if not a week one.
i would have prefered more valium because they just started being usefull, im hopeing the temazepam will be at least half as strong so i can continue my benzo, codeine and lemon extract cocktail ive been loving for the past week.
thoughts?, anyone know how strong both the temaz and the lexapro are comparitavely

Your doctor was right; benzos really aren't useful for depression. Legitimate depression. Hell, they are, after all, depressants, you know. Imagine that.

If benzos are making the world of difference for you and your symptoms (assuming you actually have symptoms and aren't just trying to get fucked up), then you probably have more of an issue with anxiety than depression. The two can certainly go hand in hand, though, and not everyone has their depression worsened by benzos (if properly mixed with an anti-depressant).

Originally, Xanax was-- and still is, on occasion, if I recall-- marketed as benzo that was also effective on depressive symptoms. Could be a crock of shit for all I know, but I know that was a big pull for it when it first came out (along with it being "non-addictive", lol).

Also, Lexapro is not exactly the exact same thing as fluoxetine (Prozac, or whatever the hell your country calls it). They're certainly similar, and in the same class of drugs, but some of the mechanics of the two have differences that mean one may work for someone while the other doesn't.

Lexapro is certainly a better ant-depressant than fluoxetine, though. Then again, I think any anti-depressant is better than fluoxetine, so take that with a grain of salt.

so are you trying to get fucked up or help your depression? You cant have both all the time. Sure you can live life "high and happy" but eventually you will come down and feel like shit.

Default Re: was prescribed temazepam and lexapro

I currently take lexapro (10mg daily). I have been on it for at least two years now. Its great for my mood and depression tho it doesnt help completely with the anxiety. Generally people will have the anxiety and depression hand in hand as one can influence/cause the other.

Lexapro is an SSRI and knowing that you havent responded well to them in the past, it MIGHT not work. However I find it great compared to other things ive taken. BTW it is not recreational at almost any dose. Also you might see some agitation and anxiety starting the SSRI for the first month or so. My Dad is a psychopharmcologist ,gives meds to fucked up people like you and me :) , and he was explaining to me that he sometimes gives valuim or kpins to people starting ssri's. Antipsycotics work too however they have undesirable side effects like weight gain.

As for the anxiety and the benzos, the best "cure" for panic attacks and such is a rapidly absorbed benzo like xanax. Try some Cog behavioral therapy as well.
Id get off the codiene for sleep. Stick to a benzo for that. Opiates are the devil disguised as an angel. They are so good yet soo bad.
