Arrow Transporting

I think I remember someone, warweed maybe, went so far as to put steel plates in the back of their car. I'm not that dedicated but I've got a few dozen mL's of NG I want to move about 10 miles. Mostly the roads are nice but right at the end is about a half mile dirt and gravel.
I could probably dig up some cotton to cushion it, but is that enough? I know NG isn't that sensitive but I'm still more uncomfortable around it than AP.

Thumbs up Re: Transporting

dont use styrofoam peanuts like that dumbass did with his primaries
and isent some cotton like 1/2 plastic crap that can generate static electrcity, not that it matters with ng i dont think. you better make sure its 100% cotton, just incase

or you can dilute it with acetone

YUP though that was a while ago i since got rid of the car but it was a old 1982 mercury cougar gs 4 door sedan that i cut the bottom of the trunk out and tacked in some sheet metal so it was flat (used to have a well for a spare tire then i just made a triangle frame on the bottom and sides and then a welded some 1/2 inch A106b (high pressure) Plate steel for the 2 side walls and for the back wall and the bottom i used 3/4 inch 1/8 inch gap with 100% penetration using 6010 root and 7018 fill all of which is uphand weld (not down hand) then on the back closest the lock for the trunk only 10 inches up and for the top 10 inches as well .. then on the inside i had chain tacked for hold bottle in place .. and small little containter spaces so stuff would not bounce around the idea was that if somthing were to occur it would not peirce the back were the back seats were instead it would be forced mainly to the side walls and it would blow up and out saveing anyone in the back seat and the fuel tank .. the transport container was grounded to the frame ...

car cost - 250 dollars
car parts - 200 dollars (minor engine work and beefer suspension)
cost of steel - 90 dollars (local scrap metal yard and a cutting torch for the win)

total time invested about 13 hours total

so i probally spent about 540 for a safe transport vechicle plus gas :P

i tested cobs and small HE charges under 600 grams

needless to say all worked well replaced the trunk and hinges 3 times and hammered a few small dents .. trunk was about 30 bucks from a car junk yard

i ended up selling the car though for scrap metal about 2 years ago ....

I always wrapped shit in towels, put them in a back pack or safe, and then set that shit in my lap and absorbed the shock myself.

I'd like to have kids.

Looks like I'm gonna dissolve some ETN in it and roll with that.

If it goes off you won't be doing much of anything regardless. It is safer to hold it and absorb the shock yourself.

Since that depends on the size of the charge, I'll take your word for it

I walked to a spot once with a charge wrapped in towels in a backpack, witnessed the awesome power of the charge then realised how fucking stupid it had been having an organic peroxide on my back next to my spine. If anything had happened and I had survived I still would have probably been paralysed for life (Id rather be dead.) Never did that again and considering I had an accident with the same stuff a few weeks later I realised even more how badly that could have turned out.

i always used a spring rig to hold any impact sensitives i'd have

e.g. make a container that will hold the bottle/vial/tub in place and put springs on parts thatll basically make it suspended, make sure the springs are more than strong enough to take a beating but, not too strong so it'll work.

you can guess what the springs do..
worked for me in a car over dirt/rock tracks

I had an old thick safe, survived 3 detonations in the trunk of my car. Had to weld back on the door of the safe, and replace my back windshield once.

I truly wish I knew how to handle plasticizers competently.

Dilute that shit.

I used to have a trailer towed behind my truck. On it there was a 3' by 3' by 2' box made from steel. Inside, there was concrete 8 inches thick. Sure, it may have been overkill, but It was tough. I filled the inside with water, and placed anything I needed to move inside a waterproof container, often a nalgene bottle. Then I filled the bottle the remainder of the way with cotton, so that it wouldnt rattle in the bottle.

On the bottom and top corners, I had some eyebolts, and used them to secure said bottle with bungies.

Overkill, perhaps. Am I here? Perhaps.

Mixed the NG into some ETN in a film canister. Wrapped it in cotton and hit the road. Less bumpy than usual on the dirt road 'cause it had rained but it worked.

not sure about this, but how about putting your material into small sealable containers and put it into a jar of water, inside another jar of packing peanuts? the peanuts and water stops the shock, and the water doubles as temperature control

When you're working with sensitive things, I'd be worried about the material rattling inside the inner bottle, or the inner bottle bumping into the outer bottle. There'd be no cushioning, and all shock.

Sponge, soaked in water?

Sponge would stop it bashing into the walls, water would keep it at a reasonably stable temperature.

Then just open it up like a clam, pull your container out and do what you need to do with it.

I remeber hearing a while back about how they used to transport Highly sensitive HEs...

I could be wrong though...

Anyways here goes... it used to be suspended in between a cylinder filled with water or some inert liquid by either wires or some sort of high tention elastisized material all allong the inside and outside of the container..

Now I've heard it's done somehow by preasurized liquids and somehow it stays centered in the container... never really looked into it though.

Maybe some elastic bands in a PVC container...

Here's an idea in theory

Get a few elastic bands cut them so they're all in one length.
Tape the elastic bands around the container containing the HE around the center of the elastic bands then cap one end of the PVC pipe with all the ends on one side then fill the container with water to the top then applying just enough tention to lift the container to the center of the PVC then capping it like the other end...

A substitue maybe is haveing a pre made tube with a small tube inside with an inside diamiter the same as the outside diamiter of your HE... Grease the inner tube then insert the HE containter fill with water cap it then off you go.

Same can be done to the final container to create more of a "shock" absorber of sorts.

Still just an idea... I haven't tested it out myself... if someone does all the best to you...

I just walked most of my finished things to a pit I had dug in the back and that was it... 100+ft of speaker wire to the det and a timer if I wasn't feeling too safe and that was it.
