| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

Financial Reality
Okay, everybody knows Barack Obama is a popular candidate and seems to be a legitamate man. The only problem is that we can't afford what he is trying to do... Sorry, but if you look up the figures, our country is way too in debt to expand the federal government right now. That is what he is trying to do and they will just run our money straight into the ground.
Secondly, in this coming election your vote will be for either the candidate who has the some of the least credentials ever or one who has some of the most.
Third. I do agree with a lot of the things Obama says. He is a legit man and appears to want what is best for us. I've done the research and don't think he is the best candidate though. I urge you to do the research and decide for yourself. Be informed!!!
Oh and I don't really believe this but it's kinda freaky.
-Look up characteristics of the antichrist and compare someone to what it says. And the shit that's supposed to go down in 2012... that's wierd hahahaha

Re: Financial Reality
The Antichrist, really? How old are you?
As for the finances...yes I don't agree with simply throwing money at problems, but our debt won't be reduced till we get rid of the fed and the government's blank check...and this "war" on terror :/

I do wish Obama would be a bit less aggressive in his spending plans. The money isn't really there. (It's not there for McCain's tax cuts either).

Re: Financial Reality
Getting universal healthcare will be a difficult and long process in America. I support universal healthcare but too often I see people refer to how well it is working in Europe. The reason it works so well is that most of Europe was rebuilding after being completely devastated by WWII. While the damage to countries was awful, it did give them a better opportunity to start from scratch and to get their country working again after the war took such a dreadful toll on them. However America hasn't had any major rebuilding since Reconstruction which will make our transition to a national healthcare service much more difficult because we're going to have to do it very slowly to allow people to become accustomed to it.

Re: Financial Reality
Getting universal health care is a wank. Why is the US the only first world nation where insurance company's are can make a profit? because your not worth a dam, thats why. Change that and you would not need to tax a dam cent. Our county is owned by corporations. Mccain don't seam any better with the I'll fight tell the end bullshit. Not that obama is going to pull out. All the shit they say they will do will stop at the door to the oval office.

Re: Financial Reality
Universal healthcare won't work in the States. We have just too many people. we've got 300 million people, france, for example, has only 68 million.
True, we've got a much, much larger economy than the Frenchies, but we're also in debt up to our eyeballs and trying to deal with an open borders problem. As Ron Paul once said (and it makes a TON of sense) "you can't have a welfare state with an open borders state"
we need to cut the Federal Gov to the bone. Right now, I'd be for a full withdrawal from all unnecessary battles (IE Korea, Taiwan, Europe, Iraq, South East Asia) cut military spending, seal the borders.

One thing you have to realize though is without a universal healthcare system you will continue to loose more jobs. I cant remember the specific numbers, but take the automakers. Where the majority of auto's used to be built in the states. Now there built up here in Canada. We have the same standard of living, our dollars are basically at par, and the education/training programs are equal. But its far more cheaper for GM to supply benefits to somebody in canada cause it costs several 100$ compared to several 1000$ . The only other option would be to take down the unions which have a stranglehold on there secured benefits, which would be just as difficult as switching to a single tier health care system.

Re: Financial Reality
I disagree that McCain is the answer to this countries financial problems considering he has voted on Bush policy 90% of the time.
Before Bush we had a balanced budget and were on the right track.
I am not in complete agreement with Obama but these "conservatives" are not the answer.
