Default When conversations are one sided

What does it mean when one person dominates the conversation by asking all the questions and bringing up topics when the other party just answers questions and goes along. I'm talking about chatting on IM or making small talk at a party.

For example,

a: hey b, hows school going
b: not bad, only 2 more months
a: awesome, then your finished right?
b: yup
a: which feild are you in?
b: biomedical sciences.

Does it show lack of interest in the person, maybe because the other person hasn't warmed up to you yet (doesn't know you well enough), is shy, or has just a quiet personality? I dunno throwing some ideas. what do you think

P.s: this is a boy/girl situation, more specifically in my situation the girl is "person b"
p.p.s: sry for the lame example

i hate bland responses like that, there is no way of replying, I dont bother talking to people after too much of that crap.

I would say that it is lack of interest or motivation... I always tell people why they do that, it gets on my nerves, if you dont wanna talk just let me know quit bullshitting around.

shy/nervous or just bored, and doesn't want to talk with you

when you converse, is she looking directly at you? is she fidgety, like she wants to leave, or is she at least interested in hearing you talk?

it's not really how she responds, more like body language

you can read all about it in neil strauss' book...

just kidding, pick up books are pointless. try to pick up on her body language though

oh, and i'll add this: usually a girl is always, always wanting to talk about herself, so if you do all the talking but she still likes you... you got yourself a good one

sry to above poster, i re-read my post and realized that really was a bad example. I'm talking about when one dominates the conversation and the other goes with the flow. I dunno (im tired) maybe my example with more personality to person b.

Ill try to post a im conversation with the girl I'm talking about. She replied to my questions sufficiently, and kept the conversation going, but didn't really ask me about me or brought in new topics.

Wrong. A one-sided conversation is when I say one sentence, and she talks for the next hour while I lay the phone on the counter and go play video games.

I used to do this on IM/text mostly because I was just stupid. If the other person initiated the conversation I would just kind of go along with it, and i realized that it got boring and they were asking all the questions.

So I started trying to be more active, and me and my gf can talk for hours on im.

Maybe "b" just doesn't realize she's doing anything wrong, especially if you are good at keeping the conversation. Or maybe she just doesn't like you... I dunno

It's frustrating and can mean any of a million things. The only way to find out is to ask.
