Default Someone explain California to me

If I move to California for college, can I get medical marijuana for a bullshit reason (ie my neck hurts or I'm anxious)?

Is it good shit or some regs?

Any experiences or stories would be cool.

Medical marijuana is arguably the most potent weed you will find.

And I believe (although I'm not sure) that you need to be a resident of Cali to get a card, not just a student. But I'm probably wrong.

Yeah, you could. It's pretty damn easy to get a cannabis card if you want one. However your going to need California Id or be a resident. A lot of people I know go through MediCann. MediCann is an organization of integrated medical clinics committed to providing a stress-free, holistic environment where patients in need of medicinal marijuana receive a cost-effective, expert evaluation by a licensed medical professional. Qualified patients receive a physician's recommendation allowing them the legal use of Medical Marijuana under California Proposition 215, also known as the California Compassionate Use Act of 1996 Health and Safety Code Section 11362.5, and under SB420, section 11362.7.

http://tinyurl.com/5grhww

Pretty much all you need is 150-175 dollars. Although actually having something in your medical records helps quite a bit, it's not required. A valid California ID is also required but if your coming out here for college that wouldn't be a problem obviously.

Go in there with a respectful attitude and say your complaining of anxiety or back pain. It's hard to test for both of those. Which means it's hard to disprove. You can also say it's to help with the appetite if your a skinny fella. Don't say it's for insomnia or you will simply be prescribed a sleeping pill which works on everyone. Basically don't act a fool and you should pass your evaluation fine.

So great you have a card. What can you do with it? What powers does it posses? Federally none. But statewide laws you may ask?

Law SB 420 states:

" No person or designated primary caregiver in possession of a valid identification card shall be subject to arrest for possession, transportation, delivery, or cultivation of medical marijuana in an amount established pursuant to this article, unless there is reasonable cause to believe that the information contained in the card is false or falsified, the card has been obtained by means of fraud, or the person is otherwise in violation of the provisions of this article"

That's pretty nice in and of itself. But then there's also this.

SB 420, Section 11362.77 states:

“... that qualified patients and primary caregivers may. . . maintain no more than six mature or 12 immature marijuana plants . . . Counties and cities may set guidelines exceeding, but not reducing, the state limits.”

Yes, you can legally grow weed. Most counties will let you have more then six plants growing in your house. For example I believe the maximum in mine is thirty plants.

Ya can't get cocky though. It doesn't make you immune.

SB 420, section 11362.79 states that patients may not ingest medicinal marijuana:

1.In any place where smoking is prohibited by law.
2.In or within 1,000 feet of the grounds of a school, recreation center, or youth center, unless the medical use occurs within a residence.
3.On a school bus.
4.While in a motor vehicle that is being operated.
5.While operating a boat.

The cards have expirations of 6 months to a maximum of 1 year before renewal. There are several dispensaries in most county's which sell the CHRONIC of the chronic. They have mids to dank all at prices based upon their potency. Their is several different types of edibles. Brownies, Cookies, Pot tarts, etc etc.

They also usually have really hot girls working there. Which let's face it just makes them hotter. The staff is usually very nice aside from the BIG BLACK security guards( Don't fuck with them). It is not unheard of to receive a free gram or joint just because it's a new club your going to and they don't know your face. Be sure to have your card ready when you go.

Don't answer your cellphone in the dispensary or even in the fucking parking lot. That is sketch and they will get pissed. If you get caught selling marijuana via your cannabis card you will be royally fucked.

I wish you luck and hopefully you come check out the West coast.

How would I go about getting a California ID?

Obviously if I go out there, then I'm going to have to get a new Drivers license, right?

you only need to get a new drivers liscene if you obtain a permanent legal residence in the state of california. which in plain english means, once you rent and appartment, have a bill/peice of mail, and other means to prove who you are...

otherwise, even at college, your permanent address is still your parents house. [off topic: but thats one of the reasons why college aged kids don't vote, they can't be assed to absentee]

btw, even if you end up not being able to get a card it is very, very easy to find a dealer who buys his supply straight from the club and charges the same, or at most $5 more, and has a wide selection of strains to choose from. ive never bothered getting a card for that very reason. i figure why pay the $150 and go through the whole process and then have to drive over to a cannibus club everytime when i could just save the time, save the gas, and use that money on the actual weed. even if all of my connects are dry or busy or whatever i can hit the street and find a pot dealer pretty quickly and most of the time its medical stuff as well. the only thing that makes me still consider getting a card is the fact that i wouldnt really worry about cops anymore. but i am careful enough so thats not much of an issue, and obviously the laws are very relaxed here as well.

so keep that in mind

Just getting a piece of mail and renting an apartment is not enough to establish residence. Otherwise people would be able to do that and get resident rates for college too.

No, you need to be able to show that you have lived in state for at least a year.

As for getting a card, while it is true that there are still places where anybody can get a card for enough money, most places are tightening up things a lot. But the law was written so vaguely that it is still pretty easy to come up with an at least semi-legit reason to get one.

As for the quality, it is the best the state has to offer. And when you go to a medical coop when they say you're getting Granddaddy Purple, or OG Kush, you know for damn sure that that is what you are getting.

Now here's the thing though: I don't even bother anymore. I realized that the only advantage of having the card was that I could go into the coops.

Now don't get me wrong, it is quite fun to be able to choose from so many types of high quality bud and hash, and oils and edibles, etc... But like someone already mentioned, you can buy pretty much the same stuff that the clubs have - since a lot of it comes from the same growers. And believe it or not, the prices on the street are pretty comparable with those of the coops**. So if that's worth $125 to $200 a year to you, then by all means go for it.

But if you're like me, you'll opt for still getting it on the street. Or better still, get to be introduced to someone who grows. That's what I did. I know two who grow for the coops. And I can get an ounce for $280, which is cheaper than the coops charge [and is more than the growers make from the coops, see the note at the bottom].

I keep a copy of one of my expired prescriptions. I figure if I ever do get questioned by the cops I can show that I did have one at one time. That may be enough to get a pass as many cops here - especially in northern Cali - really don't like having to waste time on small time pot shit.

But and here's the main thing for me - even if they do bust me with the full force of the law, the worst that can happen to me for having an ounce or under - as long as it's all in one container - is that I get a $100 ticket. It's an infraction [how apt...lol], not even a misdemeanor.

So it comes down to that I was paying $125 to $200 a year to keep from getting a $100 ticket. Seeing that in my entire life I have never been busted to pot, it seems that it just isn't worth it to me just to be able to go to the coops. I mean, if I really felt the need for something specific that I can't get myself or make , I just ask someone I know who does still have a card.

** Those suckers make money hand over fist and might be an endangered species. I recall recently reading something about a court decision that said that coops that operate on a for-profit basis are not legal. Personally I think that this is good. I don't think for profit coops are good, at last at this stage of things.

Right now they are about the biggest target for the anti-medical pot crowd and it really is hard to refute them. I mean, it is pretty hard to keep saying, on the one hand, that these are just oops by patients and for patients to be able to get cheap and safe access to medical pot. Well it may be safe, but it is certainly not cheap if it is the same as street prices.

People should not be making money off this yet. Money going into the cause, to other such non profit shit, fine. But asking a lot of money always pisses off people who don't have money, for one thing. Once medical pot gets to the point where it is taken for granted, [I]then will be the time to allow profits to go to people. Not to mention the time for making it legal for all.

It's incredibly easy getting one, just have to be a resident here. You just go in, show I.D pay the fees see the 'doctor' (bulshit doctor if you ask me) say whatever reason you want it for (headaches) and there you go. Pretty much want you to have the card.

If you do though, don't move here and grow it otherwise you can go fuck yourself.

i have a medicinal cannabis card for chronic knee pain which i developed running cross country in high school. The clinic i went to asked for no proof and asked very few questions. I could have, hypothetically of course, told them i was suffering from chronic pain, even if i wasn't, and still got the card. They dont really care, they just want the 130 or 150 dollars it costs to see the doctor for the recommendation.

all i really remember having to do was show a CA drivers license, and fill out some forms. maybe you sign that youve been a resident for a period of time? i dont remember.

since i became a medicinal cannabis patient, i have shown my weed to a cop when pulled over, and driven away without even a posession ticket and without getting the weed/piece confiscated.

i think ima go smoke a joint, my knees are killing me.

To me the quality of the weed at the clubs is the same as the quality of the weed you find on the streets of the Bay Area. I never once got shwag or dirt weed off the streets. Ever since i first started smoking around 5-6 years ago i always got good weed off the streets. Then when i started hitting up the clubs about a year ago i received the same quality pot. Sometimes you can find regs at a club for 35 an 1/8, but mostly its just high end weed for 40 to 45 an eighth... Search up the green cross, located in SF, they have a menu with many strains...AND THEY DELIVER!!!

I might have skimmed by it, sorry if I did, but what are the laws regarding paraphernalia exactly?

Also, what if you get busted by the cops, show them your card, etc, etc, they choose to confiscate the weed anyway. You take it to court, win, etc, will they give you your cron back? :p

Oh, and you Californians can brag about your medical pot all you want, but you're still paying half as much again (or up to twice as twice) what I'm paying up here. :p

With a cannabis card, cops shouldn't really bother you at all...I believe Highway patrol might be a different story though..If you don't have a card, all they will probably do is make you do the weed stomp (empty your bag on the ground and stomp it) then they let you go ticket free and tell you to be careful...The worst they can do is give you $100 ticket for possession of an ounce or under...Just make sure you don't have over an ounce, if you don't have a card...also don't carry around a large sum of money, or baggies, or a scale..Cuz then they'll try to throw "Intent to Deal" charges on you...it's simple to get a card too..there are many clinics in the SF bay area who will just take your info down...then ask if you have headaches and if you smoke to stop the pain...you say yes...then you get handed a temporary card and get a card in the mail a week later...Happy shopping

I considered the same things, but im under 21, so i would lose my driver's license with any weed related offense (according to norml.com).

so for me, the money is just kind of like an insurance policy for my license. once im 21, i will probably stop paying, thats assuming i will even be able to afford it next year.

You need to be 18 or have signed parental permission. Mild depression has been used to issue a few of the cards my friends have. You should throw in a little bit of back pain in there.
