Default Muscle relaxant in Valium and not other benzos?

Ive heard that Valium is the best benzo for help with Opiate withdrawls due to their being a 'muscle relaxant' in it?

Now ive never heard of this being the case anywhere other than what some Totseans have said.

I was intending to get Lorazepam, but was advised to get Valium instead because of this muscle relaxant.

Anyone else heard of this, is it true?

It's not the only one - a lot of benzos have muscle relaxant properties, but it is probably the most commonly prescribed one for this effect. I know someone (in the UK) who sprained a muscle in their back and was given codeine pills and Valium.

Also, Valium is much longer-lasting than Ativan, so would be ideal for opiate WDS.

Adivan doesnt work for alot of people, and valium stops withdrawls by slowing down nerve impulses, not by relaxing muscles

Actually all benzos slow down nerve impulses, whatever their main use is (hypnotic, anxiolytic, anti-convulsant), but some also have additional muscle relaxant effects. I recommended Valium over Ativan to the OP because it is a long-lasting benzo with muscle relaxant effects, which is ideal for opiate WDs.

Hypnotic, anticonvulsent, muscle relaxant, anxiolytic, and sedative. All the properties a benzodiazepine...

One of the main properties of the benzo class it that they all have muscle relaxantant properties to a degree depending on which one you are getting. Valium is the most commonly used benzo so im not surprised you heard it was the best for withdrawals(although not true), and Ativan is not widely used for its muscle relaxant properties, more anxiolytic and sedative/hypnotic. I consider klonopin a much better muscle relaxant then valium is though by far, its also much more potent too.

This is exactly what a muscle relaxer is tho. When a nerve is unable to crank out an action potential, contraction cannot happen, and therefore the muscle remains relaxed.
