Is it me or did I have the wrong image of how getting high feels like, back when I was a 14 year old aspiring druggie?

I remember being 14 years old and witnessing the fucked up debate about the legality of weed, the "addicted to weed" shockumentaries, and hearing all those wannabe stoner posers brag about how fucked up they got last night on t3h kr0nic. I thought, if this drug is causing so much debate and shit all over the world, then getting high must be the sweetest thing ever.

Needless to say, when I finally got around to actually trying it, I was sortof surprised, yet disappointed. I remember thinking to myself "is this it?" I was expecting to get an awesome euphoric feeling dwarfing that of alcohol, yet the effects were alot more gentle than I thought they would be. Feeling happy, laughing at everything, and music sounding somewhat better hardly seemed worth all the socio-political debate, let alone the bragging about how fucked up you got last night smoking weed in the couch while watching reruns of The Fresh Prince of Bel-air.

Recently I've had the same thing with MDMA. After reading the reports on erowid I was convinced I would be utterly blown away, that I would be laden with physical energy, that I would not be able to stop dancing, that I would feel so emotionally open that it would become impossible to tell lies, that it would be "BETTER THAN SEX!!11!1!" (well, getting touched did feel sortof better than sex, but not in the way it's commonly presented). It's as if people try to make Ecstasy not seem like a "drug" at all, but as a special raver pill that can only be properly appreciated when wearing pink baggy pants and listening to music produced by drum machines and synthesizers, as a substance that is somehow in a substantially different league than alcohol or coke.

I thought MDMA felt alot more "druglike" than those easily impressed erowid-writers said it would. I felt more open and emotionally satisfied than I usually do, but in my mind I was fully aware that I was experiencing a very subjective perception of the world, and that alot of the things I was saying would end up haunting me the day after. I didn't really felt that stimulated either. I could sit down on a couch and cuddle with people easily without feeling the need to move. It also felt a bit trippy, with slight visuals (tracers and shimmering edges), and I got a feeling not unlike standing on the edge of a tall cliff, looking down. But the bottom line is that X is a drug like any other, it just gets you inebriated, high, buzzing, fucked up! There's no need to venerate it like it's the blood of Christ, as some people tend to do.

I wonder if there are any other drugs out there that will probably not live up to their name. I know coke doesn't. Same for heroin, unless you inject it.

mostly hallucinogens you dont expect and with stims and depressants if i remember correctly i was a little disappointed, thinking they would be better.

I think all psychedelics do for everyone, simply because they're experiences that can't be entirely properly described. Each and every one of them is unique, and are something you have to experience for yourself to understand what they're truly like.

Especially acid. There are a good deal of things that acid can open up your mind to that can't be put into words, but needs to be felt to understand.

Mushrooms...I always thought of hallucinogens as drugs that would take you to another world basically, but I was still in this one. Walking through the woods for about 6 hours, my brain working at a much faster pace than normal (is how it felt). But I was still in this reality, which wasn't disappointing, really, but just unexpected. If I really concentrated, everything was nearly normal, yet incredibly off. Not the "lightshow" I thought all hallucinogens to be, much much much deeper.

I think pretty much everything seems worse/more intense based on what you read/hear until you actually try it. It's all about perspective.

You just have to learn to love them for what they are.

Lsd will blow you away even small doses

I figured that the elation experienced on opiates could compare to the same euphoria one has after experiencing a deep and life afirming shroom trip. Boy was I wrong. IV dilly may have a rush but the at times sloppy euphoria that ensures is really a quite anti social and almost degrading experience.

i was 13 maybe 14 and we had got it off one of our friends older brother at a festival.

We acquired a bong and ripped it in a tent,
i dont know if i was doing it wrong or maybe just not good hash But i wasn't feeling the euphoria i get when i smoke nowadays but i was giggling and pretty hungry.

In contrast the first time i did MDMA was absolutely bizzare, i did a line, then dropped a bomb and headed out to town.

I was dressed as a chef (new years party) and i was waving my wooden spoon around simply because i couldn't keep my arms still.

Weed exceeded my expectations personally. I did LSD and various other psychedelics before I ever even smoked weed, because I always had it in my head that weed wasn't worth my time and then when I finally tried smoking it kicked ass. I'm not saying that its as good as LSD, but Its definatly fun... for me the buzz is much more then just feeling a little relaxed or whatever...

Benzos were lame, I expected more... pretty much just make me want to go to sleep. Cocaine is lame... the high lasts like an hour and it costs a fortune.

no way in fucking hell MDMA disappointed you. the pills you got contained no MDMA. Ecstasy is the most overwhelmingly euphoric substance that has ever been or ever will be. Heroin and meth were nothing in comparison to the first times i took good pills.

Every drug thus far has been an amazing experience, and all of them were more than I could ever have hoped for. Especially DMT.

datura. I ate way too much when I was a kidiot, didn't do any research first. my only benchmark was a friend who said it was kinda shroomlike. boy was I surprised when my whole world collapsed and I was left paralyzed by the side of the road for hours.

The first time I did MDMA it blew me away, found out later on they were pretty much THE strongest and cleanest pills in circulation that year (Lab tested.) Second time I did it (Same pills) It blew me away again (Two best nights of my life.)

First time I did pure MDMA that also blew me away although in a more psycadelic sense as what I experienced was completely unexpected (No it wasnt MDA/MDxx)

First time I had an extremely powerful trip on mushrooms I was blown away having had pretty low level trips before that I was not expecting what I experieneced.

Again first time with a strong opiate (OC, and pretty rare over here) with weed and potentiated I was also blown away and scared my friend quite badly when I kept repeating that I could understand why people got addicted to this stuff and smack.

Other than that any other drugs iv experienced have been somewhat what I would have expected, not blown away but usually enjoyable nevertheless.

I think just about everything except for cocaine, benzos, and hydrocodone blew my expectations. Meth was utterly fucking insane the first time. Heroin, I had huge expectations for having read and heard so much big talk about it I didn't think there was any way it'd be that strong, especially since I'd done lots of OC and always heard/read about how OC is basically pharmaceutical heroin. That was total bullshit, H blows OC out of the water and into the next galaxy over. Cocaine to me is one of the most mainstream drugs there is, everybody knows about cocaine regardless of their lifestyle, and everyone I'd read about, talked to, or watched characters in movies/tv that do it made it sound like a big experience and awesome high and a really big deal. Coke is hardly ever more than just a straight up waste of money. Benzos I still can't understand how they are considered recreational. I've done my fair share of a handful of different ones, and just don't get the appeal. They're great for stimulant comedowns or just getting some solid sacktime but otherwise what's the point?

I was kind of let down by almost everything I did. Nothing ever felt as strong, or as awesome as people made it out to be on the first try. I remember lying on the couch the first time I did LSD, staring at the roof and watching patterns and going, "It's just a drug, like all the others." I came down the next morning, and watched as my head reassembled into an entirely more positive mentality over the course of a week. Then I dropped again, taking ~500ug on a sugar cube (I trusted my source, I know where his stuff came from, I'd been dosed straight out of the vial and with rinses), and walked around town watching doors in my head fly open and new worlds open themselves up. I didn't realize how far gone I was rolling until the next morning, coke was rather boring, even good coke is only fun instead of awesome.

The only thing that blew me out of the water the first time was mushrooms, I ate 2.2g of cubensis aborts(only knowing they were stronger than the rest, that I hadn't gotten as much as I'd fucking bought, and I had the most money in so I was taking first pick.), and thirty minutes later my last sober words were, "Did it just get lighter in here?" followed by a hard come up and a gnarly body load which peaked into a deep sense of understanding, whirling bands of hieroglyphics and feeling as though I could see time from the outside. Thoughts and objects were equally as tangible. I realized I was tripping lying on my back on my trampoline when the stars stopped falling about four hours after I ate them. I looked over at my chick and said, "Oh fuck, what'd we take?" and she replied with mushrooms. Then I roamed around for a couple hours, watching shit melt and small patterns before falling asleep on the couch.

I think my biggest problem with psychedelics is I like to dose really high, but finding even a normal dose around here is hard, and I really don't have the patience to save up a stash one hit or gram of mushrooms at a time. Maybe I should look into using an MAOI next time I dose San Pedro...

Personal preference, weed isn't for everyone...but keep in mind there is weed and then theres weed. Quality over quantity.

Once again the quality thing might be coming into play...I've had E that made me want to never touch the shit again, and E which was paradise. Set and setting too, I personally don't like the dance floor too much when I'm on E, chilling with some friends, or better yet a GF take the place for some of the top moments of my life.

Coke fell below expectations for me, as did DXM and about half the shrooms I've tried (the other half blew my mind :D)

But I think more than anything you might need to find some high quality drugs. You can't just judge all the drugs in the world by the couple doses you've tried.

my first time inhaling properly blew me away. I took two waterfall hits. I had a straight up out of body experience for like 15 minutes. When I walked my spirit zoomed farther behind me, and elastically snapped back into my body when i stopped. And I also experienced insane time dilation, my friend ran across the street to grab something, for maybe 2 minutes. I asked him what the hell he was doing for half an hour. Amazing time, really changed how I viewed reality and perspective.

Weed wasn't as good as I had hoped. That said, I loved it, but I was expecting a lot more.

The first time I did XTC though, that exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a mild-increase in energy/euphoria, but it was a very intense trip, which I wasn't expecting.

LSD lived up to my expectations, I always expected it to kick ass (for lack of a better term), and I immensely enjoyed it.

LSD, mushrooms, and salvia. ESPECIALLY salvia. I mean people sound nuts when they describe mushrooms but man, with salvia it becomes even harder to describe, if not completely impossible.

Salvia - One of the first psychedelics I experienced. ~7th Grade
The way it blew my expectations was that it was the most uncomfortable shit I've ever experienced, has been every time I've tried it. I've only tried it a few times, and I'm content with that.

Cocaine - Fun the first time. ~8th Grade
Got fuckin jacked, don't remember much.

Amphetamines - A little dissapointing, although I didn't ingest it the best way I could. I popped 50mgs of adderall with the time release on. ~9th Grade

Ecstasy - :) ~9th Grade
An hour into the high I chewed about 1.5-2gs of Mush. I'll mention I was at school for this. Hours later I ate about 300mgs of DXM. The DXM was consumed after school when I started to come down. Let's say I quickly forgot what a comedown even fucking was. Fun time to say the least.

Weed - Felt like a dream. ~6th Grade

DXM - Insane. ~8th Grade
Took about 300 mgs and got the highest off DXM I ever have, strange hallucinations like the red shit from Golden Eye/Perfect Dark when you get shot appearing on the bottom of the erowid page along with the sound. This happened at random.
Also, trying to sleep I experienced a closed eye movie of a counter-strike game, or atleast moving through the counter-strike world erratically in maps that don't exist.

Mushrooms - Shitty. ~7th grade at >1.0g of Psilocybes.
Unexplainable. ~8th grade at <4.0g of Psilocybes

Opiates ~10th Grade
A nice fucking body buzz before I lied down and woke up for school in the morning, puked in the hall haha.

Alcohol - A cool fucking night with my cousin, drunk as hell playing Hitman, also we got so drunk we egged the house across from me and both my immediate neighbours. We stepped outside for another attack and a PO was parked outside of the house across from mine. We quickly retreated inside checking on the cruiser through the window at certain intervals. We eventually just forgot about whatever and passed the fuck out. We never even got caught hahah. ~6th Grade


Never tried Heroin, Crystal Meth, PCP, Ketamine, or Acid. I don't plan on smoking crack. I couldn't handle a high shorter than an hour, nevermind less than a tenth of one.

Opiates were amazing for me...and will always be my favorite.

First time I did Oxy was amazing. Such a tiny pill and it does so much, gave me energy, outgoing feeling, talkative, in a generally good mood...it was fantastic. I wasn't expecting it to make me feel that great.

I have to say the only drug that utterly blew my expectations so far has been mushrooms. Especially the first time I took a heavy dose (about 35g wet), I was utterly amazed at how extreme of an experience it was. Nothing in this world would have prepared me for it. On subsequent trips it only got better every time.

I think my memories of shroom trips were what caused me to overestimate MDMA's effects somewhat. Surely I was tripping, and it felt intense, but not in a mindfuckingly insane way that shrooms was. That said, MDMA euphoria is pretty great by itself, but it gets completely blown out of the water compared to shroom euphoria. I think it would have been better if I had tried MDMA before moving on to shrooms, as that would have been the closest one could get to preparing oneself for major psychedelics.

Another hard drug that, in a way, lived up to my expectations was ether. It was (as usual) completely different than the way people on the internet tend to describe its effects. But it's still quite a fun substance especially considering its price and availability (Belgian pharmacies OTC, medical grade, €2.5/100ml). It may carry a desperate, pathetic reputation, but screw that; I don't care.

I suppose maybe the 'classical' hard drugs such as meth, crack and heroin might live up to their reputation when I come across them. I'm not planning to fuck with them for too long though.

Exactly what happened to me, the frame/strobe vision is fucking ridiculous, and i know what you mean about the movie-like feeling I literally thought I was not moving as I walked, like life was glitching. that was from smoking a huge bowl of an apple pipe (the whole top of an apple, sliced off and replaced with a huge screen) between 3, but it was cold and dark and i got really freaked out..

nothing close to that has happened except probably a month later, i got the depersonalization but not.

i think its lame that i can't freak myself out with weed anymore. sure it was scary then but now it would be fucking crazy if that happened. i need to take a tolerance break, but i've tried up to a week, and nothing close to that.

but right now my tolerance is ridiculous it takes 2 bowls of dank for me to get to the point where people can tell that I'm high.

one bowl just gets me chilled out, hardly any body buzz or fucked up thoughts, just that everything is a little bit comical.

Chronic - See above. I was babbling things like "I didn't know marijuanas could do this" to my friend as I stumbled around the kitchen eating every fucking thing.

Xanax - Didn't realize it blew away my expectations until later but 18+ hours of full on blackout my first time. pretty self explanatory.

Dexedrine - made me realize meth was my drug of choice and i didn't even know it.. i don't think i'll ever try though.

Salvia - Enough fucking said, i didn't expect to completely forget my whole existence..

Sound like a low dose, pretty crap. try 3grams of dried, but not in the woods, as you will probably hurt yourself, if you like the outdoors then lay down in the garden.

you should start to feel it on about half an hour, and should progressively get more intense, you will probably feel the same at first and might be tempted to take more(DONT),

as it gets more intense, you should see objects start to warp, like walls breathing and A lightbulb swinging and looks like it is sideways(just an example)

after more time it will get more and more intense, and it can seem like you are on another world, or like on the tenacious D film when he takes mushrooms

This was a "heavy eighth", I didn't weigh it myself, but that's what my friend told me the dealer said. They were grown indoors by this dude, and it kicked in in about 20 minutes (ate it in a sandwich the first time). I got breathing and colors and fractals, everything looked completely fake.

The next day my friend got a heavy eighth, just about the same as mine. He weighed it, dry like mine, and it was 4.5g. So I took roughly 3.5-4.5g.

Ketamine for sure. I really wasn't expecting it to be like that (I guess I took a pretty high dose my first time), effectively beginning my current drug love-affair with ketamine.

Weed - Was much better than I could have imagined.

dXm- An old habit of mine, can take you deeper than anything.

Lsd - Was so amazing. You have to try, i cannot explain this one.

Salvia - Big ass hit + strongest salvia available = kicked open my mind so far that i came back a pissed off child. ugh. this was a mistake, i was wearing shorts and sitting on grass, and everyone was laughing. Now i hate laughing and grass.

Shrooms - loved them, they made me love grass again. I talk to my lawn every so often lol.

the first time i ever did acid is was expecting to get "high" (i.e. marijuana) and had taken a hit of farily shitty acid before so i was all like "hey, i have five hits here so i guess i should take them all right here right now." needless to say, my expectations were definitely blown.

Just to echo the general consensus here: LSD. I can only describe it as going down the first drop on a roller coaster for 12 hours.

I got properly stoned a few nights ago. AMAZING. So happy, i sat down and felt every bit of my body flying into the air... it was just amazing. Smoked like 6 bowls with my best friends :D

2c-i (Exceeded all my expectations of research chemicals. I took roughly 38mg and hit a ++++ on the Shulgin Rating Scale. I watched (my perception of) reality created in front of me, step by step. Changed my entire perception of how human consciousness and showed me the inner workings of my own consciousness, subconsciousness and beyond...)

LSD (Absolutely changed my life in too many ways to describe.)
Ketamine (The one time I did it blew my skull. I wish I had some more...)
2c-e (Stunning visually, most visual trip I've ever had.
Psilocybin (Being bemushroomed has given me an entirely new way of viewing and handling my emotional patterns...however they don't effect me much anymore. I guess I've become one with the Psilocybin consciousness (es granus salus).)
MDMA (By itself, a wonderful way to become closer to people. Combined with other psychedelics, absolute connection with something greater than oneself. Assists in achieving ++++ according to the Shulgin Rating Scale)
Nitrous (By itself, a wonderfully odd experience. In combination with other psychedelics it becomes a completely consciousness expanding experience. Instant Pseudo-Enlightenment, or Backdoor to Heaven.)
DXM (Still close to my heart, though I'll never do it again. Opened my mind to trying other psychedelics and entheogens, and opened doorways that I will never want to close. Though I was young and inexperienced, it took me to levels that I will likely never be able to achieve again. However it is the only psychedelic that has given me slight HPPD. I still get Robo-Flashbacks. Probably just mild brain damage. *robo-walks*)

All the other drugs I've tried (Benzodiazepines, Stimulants, Opiates and Pot) really aren't for me. Except a bit of pot now and then. Pot did blow my mind the first few times I tried it. I can't do it too often, because I catch all of the thoughts in my brain and it makes me want to do everything, therefore accomplishing absolutely nothing. This is simply how it effects me, and I am not trying to debate whether it does it to anyone else.

Same thing sort of happened to me but instead of the hype it was the bad things about drugs. I remeber going through school having to listen to all that junk about anti-drugs and shit and thinking maybe drugs really are bad. I started out with weed and found out it was complete bullsit what they said in school, I wasnt freaking out, losing my mind or having mass panic attacks, instead it was really nice. At that time I still told myself I would only stick to weed as alot of people do thinking that maybe the stuff about the other drugs was true. Then comes the day im offered coke and I start thinking again about what I remeber being told happens to people and think that im gonna get addicted after one try, I decide to do it anyways and again nothing fucking wrong. Back then i used to look at drugs as somthing bad but now realize that they are completely normal and if a person is responsible they could probabaly use any drug they wanted without consequences or very little at that.

Now that i read over this it pretty much has nothing to do with what your saying but its typed already so fuck it.

The first opiate (and drug aside from booze and weed) I tried was Tramadol. After reading up on it I expected it to be shit, but when I took it I was close to nodding. I remeber it at the time being one of the best feeling's I have had.

Yeah and its not cross tollerant with weed either, there are a few other alternatives starting to turn up which apparently taste better or have better highs but the shit really does work. The main problem really is not knowing exactly what is in it that gets you so high and feels so close to weed cause im pretty sure its not the "listed ingredients."

Oh it gives you the munchies 100x worse too.

weed - 150+ times probably. didnt really blow my mind, i was expecting more, but i still love it

alcohol - ~100 times probably. i pretty much expected it. not an awesome drug. oh hold on, the bad side effects i did not expect.

benzos (xanax, valium, ativan) - ~50 times. eh, i had draken before, pretty much knew what was coming.

opiates (oxy, vicodin, codeine, hydromorphone, morphine) - ~25 times. first time with oxy was amazing, i was not expecting the awesome euphoria, definitely up there in favorite drugs

mdma - ~5-10 times. greatest drug ive ever tried, i love the connection feeling that cannnot be described, blew my mind.

lsa - 3 times first trip ever. fucking amazing, opened the door of psychedelics for me.

lsd - ~10 times just great in general, mind blowing. beautiful experience

psylocybin - twice. less visual and beautiful, by very mind blowing. havent fucked with it much

nitrous - 50+ times. ha i love this shit, not very mind blowing tho.

ketamine - once. amazing experience. something you gotta try.

dxm - ~5 times. eh, i never really reached the 3rd plateau, so it was...ok in my experiences

For me it would be Opiates. I was about 12 or so and had some oral surgery and my father told me something about people taking them to get high and a friend told me they make you really happy and relaxed. I had never had any form of opiates before so i took 3 5mg percocets (15mg Oxycodone) and ended up laying in bed euphoric as fuck watching a movie on one tv with a small LCD screen from a car visor tv sitting on my lap playing GTA on PS2.

I expected it to be a good time but had no idea i would feel that good. I wish i could feel that way when i take opiates nowadays......your first time is always the best.

DMT - Absolutely insane to be plunged that fast, that intensely, into utter, yet insightful, madness. My experiences with this drug could best be circumscribed as very similar to my heaviest of mushroom trips, but condensed into an eternal 15 minutes.

Mushrooms - The gentle cousin of my above experiences with DMT, I've never been as high as when I ate 14 grams of that fine cubensis. Trippy colours? No, more like life-shattering revelations thrown at me one after one in countless fluorescent pixels of the collective mind. And the best part, once it plunges you into the ocean, it softly carries you back to the shore, and, as if by magic, your normal waking consciousness is pieced back together. This drug shows you the true nature of things, the phantom DNA behavior all around you, and other things I couldn't possibly describe. Fantastic.

Cannabis - Did we really have any major expectations from this drug considering most of us tried it at such a young age? I would hardly consider this drug mind-blowing. Albeit my perception of this drug may have been skewed or jaded from other, stronger, experiences. In fact, I could even argue that any mind-blowing experiences had from this drug were probably caused by other previous trips that seeped into the forefront while really stoned.

Cocaine - I really enjoyed the practical nature of this drug. Mild, almost natural feeling euphoria, while still being able to maintain a sharp composure. A splendid choice for casual nights and productivity with little side effects; given, of course, that moderation and clean product is used. As Aleister Crowley advised, those who aren't willing to take the brimstone with the treacle are better off keeping their distance.

GHB - When I heard that GHB was an aphrodisiac I never expected such marvelous tactile enhancements. And, unlike other drugs, if you're careful with dosing and overall use it's actually healthy for you.

Ketamine - This drug is like having the root password to your emotional or subconscious mind. And, when you're familiar with it, you can choose to have all sorts of different experiences; from light and euphoric "lucid" kind of highs, to full blown ego death/detachment. I'd rate it higher than MDMA in regards to personal exploration and development -- no question.

MDMA - Probably the best drug social drug for connecting at a deeper level with friends without worrying about crossing that line into discomfort. I wasn't that blown away by it, but I was quite surprised by how others who were normally very secretive were able to tell their darkest of secrets without thinking twice about it. Perhaps that could be considered a bad thing; unlike my experiences with k, or mushrooms, it doesn't provide the most intelligent of mindsets.
