Help me believe in God
Thanks to magic mushrooms I've come to *realize* that me, you, animals, plants, air, we're all the same. I can't help but see myself and everything around me differently now, best way to describe it is its like everything, including myself makes up a blanket and I'm part of it and at random times I flicker to a third person type perspective where I can see the entire blanket, which is generally followed by mild to moderate depression. Ever since doing psychs I'm been left with a feeling of emptiness at times, like there should be something more. I've talked to a couple religious people including a pastor in an attempt to find whatever I'm missing, but their ignorance, combined with that insufferable arrogance makes me sick.
I've thought about there being a god, a creator for a long time after my trip but came to the conclusion that any god that exists can never be reached by us...we're just the blanket. I wish I didn't believe this, wish there was a way to unbelieve this but I don't know how.
How can I fill this empty void? Is there any atheist/agnostic turned believers here who can offer some help?

Re: Help me believe in God
Go with truth. Ignorance is ignorance. Stay in reality and learn as much as you can about the world, the only true happiness can come through unlocking one's potentials, religion is only a hindrance in this category.
God is an obstacle reality must overcome.

Re: Help me believe in God
Same thing happened to me when I took shrooms.
Next thing I did was read conversations with god part2 (only one the library had).
That book pretty much covered in perfect detail everything my philosophical meanderings had brought me to believe.... and lots more.
Pop down to a bookshop today and check it out. Pick any page and see if it grabs you like it did me.

Re: Help me believe in God
I've always felt empty. Always believed in God. Both pre-psychedelics & after.
It's a puzzle.
The King James Bible, Bhagavad Gita & Dhammapada trans by Juan Mascaro for Penguin Books are of use.

Re: Help me believe in God
So you didn't feel this void before you started thinking about god and religious nonsense? You've found your answer.

Pretend? Learn to be cynical & cop an attitude?
Carry on as cool as you can, man.

Re: Help me believe in God
I suggest blowing your fucking brains out before turning to religion. The world would be a better place b/c of it. If you are too fucking weak to exist here, without resorting to imaginary friends, then please stop existing here.
I am 100% serious.

Re: Help me believe in God
Read this:
http://www.vcu.edu/engweb/transcendentalism/authors/emerson/essays/naturetext.html
Then eat some shrooms and watch the sun set.
If you don't believe at that point then there is no god.

Get back to real life. Get a girlfriend/boyfriend, get laid, start a project, start working out. There are much more constructive things to be doing than worrying about having an imaginary friend.

Nothing seems "constructive"...

"A superior man makes energetic progress in the good."
Of course you have to decide "good" for yourself. Perhaps you'll decide that you've not been doing good because you've been watching way too little TV? Maybe you'll wake up & say, "Oooooh?! Shit! How can I get anywhere if I don't spend 4 more hours/day on GTA4?
Now it isn't easy? I've known from before I ever heard about Feng Shui, that clutter & messiness in one's personal space is very distracting. IE: I could have the same amount of stuff (sans actual trash/dust/things that have a place, but aren't put away there) but more organized & my life would be better.
Consider a clean tile or carpeted floor. Run your eyes over it: see how easy & smoothly your eyes flow over the surface. Now picture one medium sized bug there. Stops the flow a little. No?
Now put the bug & 7 scattered fragments of potato chips there. Flow is very slowed.
Take that to extreme: put a 100 things out of place in your space & there is no flow at all. Which can be good if you don't like a smooth flow & prefer depression...
Is your own personal space/own backyard clean? Do you prefer mess & depression?

Re: Help me believe in God
Its the same for me. Ive been starting to think that human logic itself hinders you even if you did have a soul, i couldn't imagine a reason to dwell inside a body? But maybe lack of a good reason is cause of my earth bound logic... I mean look at the people around you they're who they are because they want to be that person. A close-minded ignorant could be just as happy as a wise, senseable man. I wonder if theres is a god who judges who goes into heaven...if he has lowered his standards.

The drugs aren't real. They've just altered your perception and played with it in fucked up ways.
It was all a dream. Don't make any stupid decisions.

Re: Help me believe in God
People find what they look for; if you want to see a god you'll see a god. If you want to see a world without a god, then that is what youâll see. I suggest rather than fooling yourself into believing in something you canât see, you should be honest with yourself. Believe in what is empirical, and let wisdom and understanding be your goals. As for the empty feeling, that is completely up too you. You control your happiness and state of mind, whether you realize it or not.

I still think you should blow your brains out before becoming religious, instead of allowing your brain to suffer the slow death it will under the yoke of bullshit dogma.
Just put the fucking thing out of it's misery.

Haha, that reminds me of a verse from Matthew.
"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls."
It seems strange to me that Jesus would call himself meek. It's kind of like saying "I'm so humble". Either that or he is saying that he is timid, which really doesn't make sense either, since he was considered an expert preacher, and really liked to challenge the pharisees of that day.

a lot of what you're saying isn't too far fetched. We are all made of the same "stuff". We are all carbon based lifeforms, and if you look at our physical world, it's all made of protons and neutrons...everything...ALL OF IT.
Obviously God isn't made of all this "stuff". So therefore he is not of this world and it's hard to comprehend and accept something like that.
Our physical bodies can't ever reach God. The one part of us that allows us to commune and eventually be with him is our spirit...it's the one thing that keeps us out of the blanket. When we go to be with Him, or when we go to be with the other one, it's our spirits leaving the blanket and entering into what is beyond it.
I've done shrooms and other psychs and when it comes down to it, they are opening your perception to this world, not the next. In the end, you only have what you had before hand, faith, only now it's challenged a little more.
