ka ching in Alaska!
Well, it is official--the PFD (a payment--interest from some $30 billion in investments-- that goes to every qualified Alaskan) this year will be $2069. In addition, we will get $1200 in state funds that were essentially windfalls from the high oil prices.
This means my family of three will get $9807, which is great. Our old wood stove started to fall apart and the new one cost over $1000. And we still owe a lot of dough from my wife's medical bills when she almost died last year and ran up $12,000 in two days--we have no health insurance.
I own a small retail business but sales have tanked--in February, for instance--my gross sales for the MONTh came to $20.
Some Alaskans piss away the dough on booze and drugs. Many responsible young folks sock the dough away fro college.
We will use almost all the money to pay down--just down, not off--credit card bills.

Good for you.
Does it make up for living in such a miserable wasteland?

Does either you or your wife work, other than your small business? What is your small business anyway? $20 a month is a very small amount...im not one to point the obvious, but that business sounds like it is worthless to keep running unless you dont always make $20 a month.

That's pretty nifty indeed.
$20! What business are you running?
What's the public health system like there? Does the PFD make up for it?

Our private health care trumps your public health care.

$3000 per person per year isn't a lot. I'd prefer if the state government put that money towards something that could boost the local economy in the long term as well.
$12000 for two days medical care is entirely too much. Unless they had every doctor within 1000 miles in consulting, that's totally unrealistic. I wouldn't pay that. You can buy two human kidneys for that much.
There is a good site with information for telling creditors to fuck off - i think it's something like tetso.com or something.
