Myristicin
Can anything be made/done with this?

Re: Myristicin
No idea, I was bored and an experiment to extract this from nutmeg came along which was quite easy to follow and now I would like to know where I could go from there.

Eat 3.5g of gelcapped essential oil on an empty stomach. Let the class know what happens.
EDIT :
Damn. So close.

Pull with acetone, evaporate ~1/3rd of the volume, filter out the trimyristic acid, evaporate to a viscous red-orange oil, ramp up to ~200c to vape off the terpenes, and you'll have a ghetto decently high purity essential oil.
The easiest way to finish the isolation is probably chromatography under UV. Does fairly well as it is, though, for many purpouses.

Sounds like a hellish experience, long, disorienting, possibly neuro-toxic. Quite the uncomfortable trip.
Seems likely to appeal, up there, with the robo-syrup chugging crowd
Please keep us posted:D

Joe my friend , wouldn’t it be wiser (in terms of healthwise) to vaporize the essential oils as oppose to ingesting the oil orally? From my understanding Myristicin oils are quite toxic and can result in kidney/liver problems - not to mention isn't there some debate concerning the carcinogenicity of Myristicin?
I have had some interest in Myristicin/methoxysafrole myself however I don't think I'd consider consuming the oils orally.

Actually, it has pretty decent and widespread acceptance on the street.

Hepatoprotectant, actually.

Actually...

...nutmeg is one of the few natural essential oil blends with anticarcinogenic effects. ;)

Well...
- I'd be afraid to coat my lungs in 3.5 grams of oil, and...
- it... really doesn't produce the effect. Gives a fucked-up, cracked-out headchange instead.
If you're really afraid to orally consume a hepatoprotectant anticarcinogen on rare occasions, ethanolic tincture to the mucosca appears to preserve effect in ways that other nongastric absorbtion methods do not, for reasons unknown. Provides a shorter, more intense experience usually, which can be a benefit for some.
But honestly, the dangers of reasonable occasional use have been grossly overstated, and the benefits - though rarely mentioned - are directly opposite the alleged dangers.

Why no - your government is also in ph34r!! :D
Much of the disinformation campaign surrounding nutmeg has exploited the fact that there is actually a condition called "nugmeg liver." First mentioned around the 1800s, it was noted in several instances of liver failure.
However, "nutmeg liver" is named after the color of the liver, which is a very pale reddish-brown, and in the late 1800s...
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/picrender.fcgi?artid=2150534&blobtype=pdf
...as noted in this historical article, was finally determined to be a bloodflow disorder of the liver.
It was also discovered at around this time that it was not caused solely by alcoholism, which is what they thought was the cause.
So, yes. There is a disorder called "nutmeg liver." However, contrary to the disinformation campaign, it is named after the coloration, and has not in the 200-odd years of its existance had anything to do with eating nutmeg.
In fact, this whole "nutmeg panic" is a lot like fearing that smoking pot will cause coral to erupt on your skin because they call it "reefer." Lulzy, in its historical etiology as a disinformation campaign, but completely baseless.

Re: Myristicin
Can you do a dry organic fractional 'still?
How could you filter out the trimyristic acid?
You mean?
trimyristin http://www.chemistry.mtu.edu/~kmsmith/Organic/Manuals/2411/Tri/Tri.pdf?
I remember reading something 4+ years ago regarding nutmeg, suggesting that it is impossible to effectively (for the home chemist) to separate...something something... from chemical chain structures.... glycerides?
Shouldn't you defat?
Im confused, im not familiar with Myristicin...and honestly... kinda fear igniting my interests

Re: Myristicin
Following a truly inspirational post by Joe quite a while back I re-visited nutmeg, experimenting with a few different methods, ethanol tincture, spice butter, steam distillation... all very, very cool.
I'm unsure of the overall safety of this particular combination (unsure about myristicin's possible MAOI effects) but 300mg of DXM and 2 grams of finely powdered fresh nutmeg gelcapped is an incredible experience, akin to swimming through honey and being wrapped in an orange blanket that overlaid a intermeshing tesselating pattern of koch fractals over everything I saw...

My God, this I wanna try...
I used my expresso coffee maker to extract the red oil & fat from Ground up Nutmeg.
Didn't get much further than that.
' Kings chemistry guide' has a bit about extracting the red oil from Nutmeg.
Bruce Eisner wrote a book called Estacy & in it theres that quote about "Myristicin + Ammonia makes MMDA" thats in a locked thread at the moment.
More like NitroEthane & LAH.

Re: Myristicin
Can you do a dry organic fractional 'still?
Yes, but your allylbenzenes will be hard as fuck to seperate from each other.
How could you filter out the trimyristic acid?
Usually, with a coffee filter.
Precipitates readily.
I remember reading something 4+ years ago regarding nutmeg, suggesting that it is impossible to effectively (for the home chemist) to separate...something something... from chemical chain structures.... glycerides?
Triglyceride content is possible. Of course, this would be readily clearable through saponification and careful pH-selective chromatography.
Shouldn't you defat?
Yes. And the essential oils of nutmeg are the fats you get from this.
Im confused, im not familiar with Myristicin...and honestly... kinda fear igniting my interests
Joooooiiiin.... theee... daaaarrrrrk.... siiiiiiddddeee....

Re: Myristicin
JoePedo: Very interesting stuff, thanks for the links as well.
-After consuming all the info I think I may just have to do some experiments, for the sake of science, possibly sometime soon. I've got 10ml of some distilled nutmeg oil sitting in chest for a quite awhile now.
.peace.
