Default Chemistry Degrees and making LSD

wellll......

I am going to college next year and either plan on getting an M.B.A. or some sort of chemistry or biochemistry degree

I am curious what kind of classes do you need to take to be able to synthesize LSD

If I was to major in say economics and minor in chemistry, would that be enough schooling to pull it off?

No. If you are taking chemistry just to make anything, forget about it, but LSD is probably the most difficult chemical to make clandestinely, that you've heard of. I doubt anyone here has the resources and skill to make it, and if someone does, they aren't sharing. It's not too difficult of a reaction (relatively), but the precursors are near-impossible to obtain.

Edit: Also, I have heard from a few sources that there is only a handful of chemists in North America making acid (read: under 20).

None that you need, but if you can walk through a chemistry degree and come out with a doctorate or pHD, then you should be qualified enough in chemistry. A minor may well not cut it, and although most of the knowledge that is required will be organic and practical based, this, as has been said before, is entirely the wrong reason for going into advanced education though.

About the economics, if you have feckloads of LSD, you can't fail to make money, its not getting caught shifting the stuff. As Diamond says, there are at least very, very few LSD chemists in America, and your friendly neighbourhood DEA is going to know about it if and when a new high quality source of LSD becomes widely used.

Therefore, I personally would think a degree in law would be more useful than a degree in economics. Knowledge about laundering, tax havens and legitimate money distribution may be handy though.

You'll need organic... but as a freshmen chances are they aren't going to let you jump right in, unless...

..unless you study your ass off and take the AP Chem exam towards the end of your upcoming school year (which shouldn't be terrible) and score a 4 or 5 - good enough for your college to give you credit for Chem 101 "General chemistry" so you can take a higher level chem course aka o-chem right off the bat.

The part that matters (for the future anyway) is the exam. If you fuckup and score a 1-3 you'll just be taking "general chemistry" in college....

You don't just go in and come out a few days later a chemistry expert. It takes years to become a pro and only the pro's would have any chance of performing a synthesis like LSD. Hoffman wasn't just some drug fiend with a degree.

Thats not true any decent college will take your knowledge and determination into account. Colleges want students who will do well in the course and succeed in the work industry. Its mainly about reputation. If they have incompetent idiots leaving college and causing disasters in the field it makes the college look bad. I never even finished school I was accepted into an advanced course because of my attitude and what I told them and I'm gonna show them they didn't make a mistake by letting me in.

Nah, what you should do is apply to Berkley - they have a course specifically catering to LSD synthesis:

"The synthesis, marketing and distribution of LSD"

First year is even split between general chemistry and Free market economics, With the reamaining years focussing strongly on advanced organic chemistry, black market economics and business start-up / expansion

Really is a fascinating course!

...

What I meant when I used the term "future" was his "future classes", not his career.

Most colleges/universities will only count AP scores as credit for classes (They'll count IB HL, but not SL). If you don't shit on the exam they have no way of knowing how much you know (besides your transcript) and furthermore won't give you credit, and you'll be stuck in Chem 101 learning which part of the periodic table are metals and which are non-metals -- like me. It sucks, I barely even go to class. It ends up being just a waste of your time when you could be doing other things.

Test outta that shit homie.

I scored a 5, shit didn't count for credit... good luck homie. My advice is take the AP chem test, so you can skip the bullshit freshmen yr. Or check up on the colleges your looking at and see if the accept SL as credit.

Or do CLEP if the AP testing date has passed. CLEP got me my AS and subsequently, a cool $7,500 from the state to be paid over the next 4 years. Cool Easy as hell--I studied for the sociology exam for an hour a day for 2 weeks and barely passed; but credit is credit and your score is rarely shown by your college. Though looking back on it, I did know my Marxist theory quite well already, so your results may vary; best buy a study guide rather than doing it all online like me.

But surely, If you know all the first year shit already, that gives you more time to go out drinking and fucking... That's what college is all about no ?!

Freshman year chem is so bogus. thatcoolkid, the same thing happend to me when I went away to college to be a chem major, I scored a 5 on the AP test which should have got me out of Principles of Chem. 1 and 2, but because I was a chem major I had to go through their program for credit. I too went to college as a chem major because I wanted to be able to make the illustrious LSD among other things such as my lifelong interest in chemistry. And over the course of that year I began to realize that with a BS in chem I'd basically just be sitting in an office for the rest of my life as a sales rep answering phone calls and writing emails rather than doing the lab style research a bachelors of science is romantically portrayed as. So there was no sense in racking up a shitload of student loan debt to do something I wasn't 100% committed to just because I could have the chance to possibly be rich when I was older. I also figured out that a BS in chem has more classes that aren't chemistry than are chemistry. I couldn't take it. Politics and english classes made me want to shoot myself. I was at a fairly prestigious school, so the classes were pretty difficult, compounded with my total lack of interest, the only way I could keep us was amphetamine. Midway through the year my dad who's an engineer explained to me that what I had viewed being a chemist as was a romanticized view pushed on me by school teachers who really dont know shit about the feild of science. So at that point I was like, fuck, maybe I'll stick it out just to have the lab technique required to manufacture LSD and the like.

And the I discovered her, 2C-B. Phenethylamines are was easier to synth than LSD, and in my opinion large doses of insufflated 2C-B has a lot of similarities with LSD as far as effects profile goes without the massive duration. Sure, I have never synthesized 2C-B, or any drugs for that matter but the 2C-B synth listed on rhodium is pretty simple other than the methylation step. Everything else is pretty straight forward. If I didn't live in suburbia or in apartments I'm pretty sure I could pull it off...

Needless to say, I no longer am paying anywhere near the amount I was to be something I dont really want to be...

evil tree i had good marks in high school and everyone wanted me to go to college and i didnt, hell i didnt even go to tafe to get the required trade certificates i need for my line of work. it would of helped me get a job right now going to uni but if i REALLY wanted another job i could get one without, with biochem my guess is it would be a really pointless certificate, theres not really much need for people in labs killing rats, if anything if a massive amount of meth is being made in your area the cops would probably find your name in there files and blame you, maybe depending on where you live. if you wanted to make lsd you would need to do it illigelly, getting the ingredients and the equipment would be the hardest part learning how to make it would be a walk in the park comparitivly (not that it would be a walk in the park), get a law degree or computer engineering and when you have some cash and know some people do a shock training course in biochem at some private uni (those really short training courses you see on television at 2am in the morning) read some books about learning chemistry that are posted on this board and start testing. im sure theres a recipe on the hive or rhodium that will work with enough trial and error then when youve mastered one recipe just put it on a grander scale.

also dont make drugs its bad

lol ouch... (if your talking about me that is)
recipe
http://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/paspalic.lysergic.html
my point is the hardest part would be getting the precursers to any synth, then its time to mash them togethor and fail untill you eventually become sucessful... that or die because your lsd batch turned into poison and you was the test rat

also im sure that synth above would end in failure, but somewhere on the internet theres gotta be one that works with enough knowledge and testing

where the hell does someone get paspalic acid, theres one with 4-Bromo-indole, still sounds sketchy

It seems to me (though I'm more than happy to be proved wrong if anyone should desire to...) that the most straightforward way would be to go via extracted the primary amide extracted from seeds of some description...

While it would undoubtedly be a royal pain in the ass to extract and purfiy enough to push on with the reaction, it's an accessible source. I wonder if you could directly ethylate at the amide nitrogen, or if you would have to hydrolyse first, with the latter being more risky in terms of epimerisation the alpha carbon.

On a sidenote, the wiki for LSD says that you can store it indefinitely as a solution in urine in an opaque or amber bottle - tasty !

On the subject of LSD i rarely talk about because it is still very confusing to me BUT i have "found" two ways in which one could afford a usable amount of Ergotamine tartrate and the other one LSA. Both require a lot of work but as of yet are very un-suspicious :). But even after sourcing one of the both precusors you need to source the other chems which is not easy, but i have found a little way around that, i think at least. Anyways, sorry for being to grey, i do not wish to speak much about this yet :(

The only N-ethylation reactions that I've seen involve forming imines or iminium ions and subsequent reduction, which I doubt would be too friendly towards that double bond (though Tihkal constantly uses LAH and it seems to not touch the indole double bond, which is encouraging to say the least). Then there's N-ethylation that could occur at the indole N, which is far more likely if using an alternative like diethyl carbonate. :( Have you seen any different reactions not involving a reducing agent? If not, it would seem like hydrolysis would be the only option.
