How old are you OP? Do you drive/go to school/ have a job? Always tell them it's seriously impeding one of those three things.

Complain about racing thoughts that become so severe at times that they cause you problems sleeping. You're disorganized, can't manage your money worth shit, procrastinate about everything etc. etc.

If you get something like Wellbutrin or Strattera or Concerta just roll with it; ask them a lot of "ignorant patient" questions about them, too. (Oh, so this does that? And this will help that? What about this side effect?) etc.

Go home, and if you really only want Adderall, just tear the other shit up; save yourself some money. Then you wait a week or two, call up the office, and complain about lack of noticeable effects and/or side effects (read up on the common side effects of each first).

It's really not hard. And if you get Vyvanse or Adderall XR, casually ask "Are there generics for this?", because there aren't for either one. If you're not on some patient assistance program you can tell him you're on a budget and inquire as to whether there are any generic medications that are similar. (Which will be Adderall IR or Dexedrine)

They usually do offer 1 month free trials with Adderall XR or Vyvanse, though, so if they do, go get your free month, then come back next appointment raving about how well it worked but bitching about the cost (neither is cheap).

Well, considering the OP made mention of Adderall specifically because he "loves the boost" I kind of figured that was the med he was going for...hence my reply.

tell him you were diagnosed when you were little, you tried a bunch of different meds and discovered adderall worked well for a good period of time. you went off them as a teenager to become more independant but now you feel like your ADHD has been affecting your studies/relationships/work/etc.

Don't suggest a substitute.Just tell him you "Just want something that works." Be patient and go through the motions. Don't let on like your doing the research...because like I said some docs are really against Adderall anymore. Of course, if you find the right doc you may get lucky on your first or second shot.

Yeah, that may very well happen. In my experience they only do that if they're a psychologist who wants to recommend meds for you.



I wouldn't go to a psychiatrist at first, see if you can find a PA or a GP. They have less of the God-Complex and haven't had as much schooling.

I agree partly. There is a disorder known as ADD that can affect the mind and make concentration far more difficult than it is for the average person...almost impossible even. In one ear out the other. However, it is diagnosed as acopout for any angsty/uninterested teen that walks into a doctors office these days. It's just far easier that way.

OP, one day you shall enjoy some tasty Bipolar goodness and if you do have ADD don't plan on getting alot of enjoyment out of Adderall. I was prescribed it and couldn't have hated it more. It helped my concentration but otherwise it wasn't enjoyable. Everyone I shared with loved it though.
