Default making new friends at a new highschool?

A friend of mine just moved to a new high school for gr12. for this year and he doesnt know anyone there at all so has no friends, no one to hang out with

He asked me for some advice and i kinda feel bad for him.

Ive already told him to join some clubs and sports teams, cuz that helped me meet new ppl when i was in high school. I guess its pretty hard to move in gr12 since everyone is already in their little groups.

anyone have any other ideas?

and no, im not describing myself =P

he may just have to bite the bullet and accept the fact that he may have no friends at all. tell him to pick up a hobby or join a club or something.

edit; weed brings people together

This. Tell him to show up at a party and pass weed out like there's no tomorrow.

I'm kind of in the same boat, so I'm curious to see the responses. Except it's kind of harder for me; all of friends have graduated and gone away, so I'm in senior year and have to make friends with people I've always avoided. So I don't get to start with a clean slate...I've got to overcome any preconceived notions these people already have about me. It sucks.

Just stop thinking about making friends. Thats it.

I love high school cause it's so socially predictable, to bad everyone realizes this after they graduate.

Hey, hi, yo, or hello. He has options. Let him know to put himself out there. Find out what there is to do and do it.

like everything else in life. Sucks.

To the OP: all he can really do is talk to other people in class, talk at lunch, and join some clubs/teams/yearbook, where interaction is almost forced.

Yes, this.
Get him talking to people everywhere so he has no "fear" of talking to new people. I dunno, but shouting out something funny in class helps sometimes!

No. No it doesn't. It just makes you look like an attention whore, and no self-respecting individual likes an attention whore.
