Default Fast wagons?

After seeing a clip of topgear where they compared stuff like an m5 wagon and some sort of amg wagon, and then seeing a pic of a clubsport r8 wagon in another thread, i'm left wondering why companies bother doing this. They'll all be fast in a straight line, but wont be able to go around corners as well as a sedan or coupe, and by doing it it also in my mind dilutes the breed of whatever car it happens to be. Wouldn't you hate owning an m3/5 etc or an amg black or whatever they're called, pulling up at a set of lights and having a guy in a amg/m wagon pull up next to you and saying 'how cool are these amgs guhuuur' or looking at you and nodding or something similar. Also, why do europeans call wagons estates? Seems odd to me.

In the case of the Clubby wagon, it's got almost the exact same performance as the sedan - and you already know how much arse they kick through the corners stock.* With a set of uprated springs that emulate what an FE3 option would be, it'll outhandle 'pretty much everything short of an Elise.'

I don't know as much about the AMG or BMW wagons, but don't let misconceptions make you think that an Audi, BMW, HSV, or BMW wagon ain't a BEAST (some of them might not be, but shit, I bet they are. Audi especially).

*Holden & HSV aren't using the long wheel base Statesman platform for the wagons anymore. The wagons are no different from the sedans except the addition of about 100kg and a change in aerodynamics** due to the changed rear shape. So there has been a biit of a sacrifice to storage capacity there, but you get sedan performance for it.

**Maybe not for the worst, that wagon has a bit of a Kammback look happening almost, and the rear tailgate hinges in such a way that it doesnt really come out further than the rear bumper ass you lift it. Clever.

And some fucken righteous rims:

As for the Caddy wagon, FUCK Bob Lutz with his 'We aren't exporting the Holden Sportwagon range to the US because wagons just aren't fashionable' shit, when he just goes and then creates this:

While postin pics, there's some new SS rims comin out, look a little Ferrari inspired (of course, they're not) in this pic though: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s157/mikmakoz/other%20cars/newsswheels.jpg

And WHY exactly won't these things turn?

Given the same chassis between a coupe and wagon, same tires, and same weight distribution, both will handle the same around a given corner. It's a fairly simple concept that weight cancels out of the equation when looking at equalization of static friction and centrifugal force.

Yeah, and in such a powerful car something around 100kg is fuck all (well, any weight is a lot when it's out of context), really. It might even seem like a lot when put like I am about to, but it still isn't that much - unless you're racing where every gram counts.

100kg is:
  • A 250cc dirtbike's dry weight
  • Two passengers, a guy and a girl - or one big bloke
  • A tank and half of petrol (or less, even)

    etc.

100kgs dropped straight on would cause a noticeable difference in handling.

However the engineers probably made a few simple changes to smooth things out a bit, so it will be fairly unnoticable.
