Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought.

Wasilla, Alaska
Default an Alaskan's take on Sarah's elevation

Not since the assassination of Jack Kennedy have I been so depressed, discouraged, and disoriented by a national event. McCheney (excuse, me, McCain) must be truely desparate, as well as monumentally cynical. In one fell swoop, he trivialized the most important presidential race in decades..

Now I find myself literally lying awake at night, worrying about the future of this country if she actually gets elected. After all, she is anti-environment, and anti-human rights. Plus she would do all in her power to force her evangelical Christian beliefs on the rest of us. She has at least made no secret of this. (Cecile Richards has observed that a woman who votes for her is like a chicken who votes for Colonel Sanders.)

I was an early supporter of her when she ran for governor--had the bumper sticker, a sign on the porch of my cabin and so forth. Then I started to listen to her. In every interview, she was incaple of giving a straight answer-she just danced around, mouthing platitudes about upholding the constitution, family values, yadda yadda yadda. I voted for Andrew Halcro, who recently blew the whistle on what is now being called Troopergate, which resulted in the legislature's doing an investigation into possible criminal activity on the part of her or her appointees--one of whom she suspended WITH pay--in other words, gave the guy some extra vacation time in return for his having misused the power of his office.

When she was mayor of Wasilla, she was notable for 1) opposing funding for the local library, which is woefully understaffed and 2) firing anyone who disagreed with her.

When she ran for governor, early on she supported the "bridge to nowhere,": saying it would improve the local economy. This was a lie, and when she fessed up later, and said she really opposed the bridge, she promised the local residents she would come there to apologize. That was another lie--the locals are still waiting for her apology.

Her most recent lie was to the citizens of Alaska--never mind all the times (starting in June) she said she would not accept the VP offer.

She had made a comittment to apprear at the state fair--this is a very big deal with us--some of us take a day off work and drive hundreds of miles to get there. She broke this commitment when McCain held out the vice-presidential carrot.

For my wife's take on Sarah, see

for still another Alaskan's take, see

If you dislike Obama's actions equally, I apologize.

First of all, no one would have said anything if Obama would have picked Hillary or the Governor of Kansas to try to pick up more of the women vote. Second of all, American Idol? What the hell was that speech in Germany? And cynical? Like Obama going around telling people that the Republicans are going to try to make people afraid of his being black?

Better than Black Liberation Theology. God Damn America! It's in the Bible!

As State Senator Obama voted present a bunch of times and had his "accomplishments" handed to him by Emil Jones. In the U.S. Senate, he got ready to run for President in the 150 working days he put in.

I think Barry said he wouldn't run for President.

She should have turned it down so some people at the state fair could hear her speak?

There is NO comparison between Hillary and Sarah--when Hillary was in the White House, Sarah was playing basketball at Wasilla High=--known, presciently, as "Sarah the Barracuda." Hillary is no angel, but at least she is pro-environment and pro-civil rights.

She should have turned it down so some people at the state fair could hear her speak?
She has repeatedly stated how much she loves Alaska and Alaskans.

She could have held off a few days, kept her promise and still have fed her lust for power.

So she doesn't love Alaska because she is taking this opportunity? This is quite the stretch. It's also a stretch that this says anything about her. You've got to be kind of a baby to whine about this. Although I'm sure you were terribly sad to miss this:

"Alyeska Pipeline Colony Stage. Be there as Governor Palin and United States Mint Deputy Director Andy Brunhart celebrate the 49th coin in the United States Mint 50 State Quarters® Program. "

You were probably the only one who would rather she spoke to you for 5 minutes than run for Vice President. Give me a fucking break. It's not like there's tons of fucking time to waste here. Democratic Convention, weekend, Republican Convention.

^I seem to be one of the few people who values honesty and integrity. If you say you are going to do something, you should do it, even if it proves inconvenient.

Sadly, honesty and integrity have never been strong points among Republicans--which is why so many Alaska Republicans are now in prison, under investigation by the FBI , or under indictment.

She's no Ron Paul, that's for sure. I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Because of her.

This has nothing to do with honesty or integrity. Things change. Plans change. You are absolutely ridiculous and absolutely hypocritical in blaming Republicans or her for being dishonest. Did you listen to Obama's speech on Thursday? Full of lies. So was Biden's. By the way, Biden is a plagiarizer. Obama is a product of the Chicago Democratic Machine. He would have gotten no where if he didn't suck up to it. So much for honesty.

So much for the Democrats' 5 day work week. So much for all their campaign pledges.

Stop bellyaching about retarded shit.

I lol'd when I read that McCain had only met Palin twice prior to handing her the title of running mate.

That was more than enough time to hear her "qualifications."

Granted, she IS cute and personable. So was Ted Bundy.

Ignore Zman. Zman is either a troll or someone that lives and breaths right wing media.

When someone criticizes a Republican, Zman is there to redirect the conversation to the Republican's Democratic counterpart (if there is one), attack the person criticizing the Republican rather than what was said, and, if Zman does decide to attack what was said, it is usually done illogically.

Added - Also, thank you for your perspective on Palin. I really do appreciate hearing information from people that are closer to the source than the rest of us. It provides actual, honest to God, insight.
