Better Living Through Chemistry Discussions of any and all sorts of mind-warping chemicals, pills, booze, mind machines, trippy stuff, current street prices, importing pharmaceuticals, smart drugs, nutrients, herbs, and altered states. Please try to keep your conversations "theoretical" in nature, since this is an open conference.

Default Faking Sleep

I couldn't sleep tonight, so I figured I'd try out some out of body experience stuff, where you pretty much lie still and meditate and sometimes you get an out of body effect. I didn't achieve that sadly, but I did get some pretty intense hallucinogenic (technically) feelings, like tremors (A feeling that can sometimes feel like you're shaking, only you're not, which I've felt before while feverish, only without the fear this time). That got me thinking though. I read that it's theorized that DMT is made in the brain and is partly (if not wholly) responsible for the visuals in dreams. I wonder if it would be possible to trick your brain into thinking you were asleep, but you were really conscious, and that would naturally release DMT, making you trip.

Y'all got any input?

Well that's convincing.

Lately when I'm falling asleep (sober) I get flashbacks to acid trips or I think that I am in fact stoned. Then I realise that I'm not stoned at all!

I know, amazing story.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimethyltryptamine

"Several speculative and as yet untested hypotheses suggest that endogenous DMT, produced in the human brain, is involved in certain psychological and neurological states. As DMT is naturally produced in small amounts in the brains and other tissues of humans, and other mammals,[11] some believe it plays a role in promoting the visual effects of natural dreaming, and also near-death experiences and other mystical states. A biochemical mechanism for this was proposed by the medical researcher J. C. Callaway, who suggested in 1988 that DMT might be connected with visual dream phenomena, where brain DMT levels are periodically elevated to induce visual dreaming and possibly other natural states of mind.[12]"

I have been in lucid states where I Can easily wake up if I chose to open my eyes. Aswell, in these states if I meditate the visual will appear before me, but this state is also the hardest to get a full "dream scape."

I wouldn't lie there trying to will your brain to release DMT, I think that would be pretty worthless.

But remember your mind is capable of anything. You don't need to know the chemistry of it.

Read up on lucid dreaming

On a similar note, after I take a break from 3-4 times weekend MDMA usage I can dream while awake. I sit there when im really tired and relax and I can dream while still being fairly conscious. Getting out of it is like trying to get out of a LSD-loop, takes mental power but its not too bad. Theyre usually quite scary dreams. Maybe this is all related to serotonin too.

Anyone have any input?

Yeah, I've never had tremors before, so I was pretty excited. It was weird though, they reminded me of the halucinations I get when I'm really feverish, only without the dread.
