Protein shakes question
I have a huge tub of protein powder sitting at home that i am eager to use, but their is a few things i need to ask before i use it.
1) If you drink the protein shakes and do not work out enough will you gain weight?
2) My routine includes:
upper body monday
legs tuesday
upper body wednesday
legs thurs
ect.
I do a fair bit, but i was just wondering if the answer to question 1 is Yes, does this mean i will gain weight in certain areas i don't exercise,
say i take the protein shakes, and i do not work my stomach at all, am i likely to put on weight in my stomach?
thanks.

Re: Protein shakes question
Nope. Don't worry yourself.
You only gain weight when you consume more calories than you have used. If you're working out then you'll be ok. The extra proteins etc will go towards building muscle.

Re: Protein shakes question
Ok thanks.
the shake that i got says in the instructions that it should be taken after working out. I have no experience with protein shakes, but to me this seems odd that you are taking in the protein after you need it.
Is that a normal method?

Re: Protein shakes question
Your muscles need the protein after the workout to help repair themselves. And I usually have one before bed to help muscle recovery.

Re: Protein shakes question
You'll be alright, look at the stats on the tub of powder. Scoop of powder is 150-300cals(depending on brand). If you were taking down weight gainer and barely doing anything then that would be a different story.
And maybe if you took your stuff you wouldnt have as bad strains/pains the next day.

Re: Protein shakes question
Yea, hopefully..
I still have the pains 3 days afterwards,
(Just started taking shakes).
So soon when i constantly take the shakes i the pain will be less.
I have a mate at school who believes that the protein shakes only put on fat that you turn to muscle, and thats how built people get more muscle.
I would try to coinvince him, but he's the type that MUST be always right, so i'll just let him have it.

im not 100% sure on this but i think if u just drink protein shakes, while sitting on your ass doing no exercise at all, itll be turned to fat.
also make sure youre taking in enough calories from other foods as well or else the protein will be burned for energy

Re: Protein shakes question
yeah it does turn to fat i am evidence of that. I have more fat than i ever had in my life because i was used to eating protein and working out, but i stopped everything all together because i went broke and then when i had enough to drink protein i started immediately and i guess i didnt work out enough/didnt have enough energy... but its starting to form a layer of fat over my chizzled muscles.
so dont drink that shit and sit around unless you want to gain whale blubber.
(btw its nothing a few days of running wouldn't take care of)

Re: Protein shakes question
I love this kids that deny the facts that are on the label. Show him how much fat is in there, and how much protein...then explain why/how protein works in your body/muscles.
