Default Should I buy a 01 Jetta?

Yeah, I found a nice 01 Jetta for about 6k

Its got about 90k miles on it, i think its got like 10k miles on the warranty but its a 2.8L vr6

-Its lowered 2 inches, tented windows, panasonic sound system, 19' rims.

The owner said that he had a transmission problem around 30k but he got it fixed at the dealership and he hasnt had any other real problems, He also said he has been keeping up on maintenance.

But anyways I really like the style and everything.. Its quick and handles well. But everyone that i could get to co-sign with me keep saying that its too expensive to maintain. Any opinions?

This coming from a 99 Jetta owner (same car, diff engine), FUCK NO. Quick? It quickly understeers into a tree. That's about it.

Investment?

No offence, but it's not an investment at all. It's going to lose value every year. It's worth 6k now, if you sell it in five years, it'll be worth perhaps 2k at best.

If you want an investment buy something 10-15 years old, that's still serviceable and reliable, that's already so worthless that the only way it can go is up.

If you're looking for a halfway decent cheap runabout, get something early-mid nineties and Japanese. It'll go on forever, cost nothing to buy or run, and you'll hardly notice the difference in quality between it and a five year old car that will only lose money.

Well cheap isnt the only thing im looking for. I want something that looks good and is somewhat higher end in the speed section. But its not really an investment though. I wouldnt put much money into it already except for the maintenance maybe the occasional engine mod but.

Get a GTI, but not a jetta. You'll kick yourself for it.

Jettas are generally your basic four door sedan. The VR6 is a fine engine and no doubt drives just as well in that Jetta as any other VW, but if you're looking for a sporty Volkswagen you really should be looking for a GTI.

But if you just want a nice sedan with good torque that'll get you around fairly comfortably and you aren't too worried about it's monatary value in the coming years, it sounds like this mk.4 would be a pleasant car to have. Provided it's in good condition inside and out, that is, Sponsored Link can tell you what a Jetta in poor condition is like...
