Default Spilled coke on my laptop

Some little fucker spilled coke all over my laptop now the thing won't even turn on. When I got to it it was working fine but then the screen started going blue so I turned it off but now it won't turn on anymore. I bought it in a different country and have no warranty on it.

Is there any chance it'll dry out? Should I open it up to help it dry?

Chances are you're screwed, but you may as well try opening it up and letting it dry.

I pressed the power button just there and it turned on. It turned back off after a few seconds but I take it as a good sign it switched on.

It's probably screwed now you've tried to turn it on. Chances are it would have been fine if you had let it dry properly.

Yep. I would take it apart completely, then wash off the components with water. Don't wash the hard disk or anything mechanical like that. Let it dry, then see if it works.

When shit like that happens, NEVER try and turn it on afterwards. Take the battery out, then take it apart and wash off any crap. Just use a damp cloth. Then wait for it to dry; stick it in the hot water cupboard for a few days or something. Then you can put it back together and try turning it on,

I just turned it on there and it went on and booted up the OS and stayed on for about 5 minutes. Is that a sign that its gonna work once it dries off fully? Should I just leave it for a few days then see if it works?

I've heard that rice acts as an effective desiccant for electronics. You could put it in an airtight container filled with rice to try removing the rest of the moisture (if that's indeed the problem, it might be sugar or some other chemical in the coke that's fucking it up).

If it stayed running for 5 minutes, it might be a heat problem - perhaps there's a gummed-up heat sink somewhere that's not functioning efficiently enough to stop the machine from overheating.
