Default Paranoia

Yesterday I picked up some weed and smoked a joint. I was completely fine until about 4 hours later when I became extremely paranoid that when I got home my mum would know I'd been smoking, even though it was 4 hours ago and I'd left no evidence.
I got home with one other friend, he went upstairs, and I went and talked to my mum and got a glass of water. I went up to my room and my friend smoked another spliff. Still I felt extremely anxious and paranoid although now I could not direct my paranoia at anything. I also felt sick, had a slight headache and slight chest pains. After about 2 hours all these feelings had gone completely.
My question is; Do you think this will happen again or even regularly after smoking weed or that it was a one of thing?

It's hard to say, but if you go into smoking thinking it will lead to one there is a good chance it will.

Just relax, remember it's only weed, if you are worried grab some benzos or something, even a little bit to drink. Set and setting, it sounds like you were just stressed about getting caught and that lead to your issues.

Worst case? Weed isn't for you, or try it again later.

I've been smoking weed regularly for just under a year now and nothing like this has ever happened. I was thinking I should just continue smoking and if anything like this happens again I'll have to stop?

He smoked a spliff: with your ma how far away? EEK! You weren't 'noid about that were you?

I find that either being super quiet & still or getting up & moving around helps with the "Fear". Moving around helps to regularize your breathing & it can distract you with the changing view.

My mum doesn't really mind about me smoking, that's why it was odd that I was even paranoid about my mum finding out.

That is defiantly not a good thing. It's normal you might feel a little paranoid about your mum, you have reason, it is a rational fear and that's perfectly normal. But you say this fear continued on even after you knew you were not busted, you knew there was nothing to worry about, but another part of you was still anxious. This is the beginning stage of schizophrenia.

What I would suggest is smoking weed as soon as you wake up. Get used to being stoned all the time, and you will probably feel more comfortable realizing its all in your head (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lyp5we2ySDo)

It actually happened 4 hours after I smoked tho which I found odd as I was feeling a bit spacey and tired but apart from that sobre. I'ma smoke again tonight and if it happens again I'm just quitting. It really isn't worth smoking if I'm going to develop a mental health problem.

Well... we all do have things to worry about. Many things that we usually deal with by ignoring. Even if it's only homework we've been slacking on or some other mundane tasks that we need to do.

Then there are larger things that people tend to freak about. People often pick something big & large that they can freak out about as a group, such as Y2K/Global Warming. These kind of things are a stand in for all the more complex personal/social/global issues that are too hard to describe & relate to.

What I'm getting at is that the worries that a person has generally can tend to fixate on some random point. They then blow it all out of proportion. Go beyond all reason. I know that personally I stupidly prefer to obsess about freaky non-personal problems because my self & my "own backyard" are a lot more work than I care to take on.

When they might well worry about smaller real things, such as they're irrationally freaking about generic stuff instead of realizing they're hungry/thirsty or left the tub running or pot boiling on the stove. That perhaps while they're getting so weird that they've been sitting too long & their body is cramped & their bladder full.

That if they got up & moved a bit a took care of these real things, they just might be cooler about all the Big Shit that they're obsessing on.

I can even imagine you freaking over your mother nagging you about things you know you should do: chores or in relation to that stuff (I'm not going to mention all those ads that start in July talking about The Thing that always starts in September! I won't name it if you won't... :( ) :D

Besides authority figures like a mother can be freaky, even if they're cool at the moment & not even paying you any attention.

I know I have a lot...A LOT of stuff that I slack on. When I get up high the blinders come off & I can see them. It burns me that I could get a lot of little things off my mind by doing them & I often don't. It's way easier to freak out about stupid random stuff than take care of business in the RW.

Lastly...I'm pretty sure I (I don't think that I'm the only one) that I pick up the fears of people in my area. Right now on Saturday morning in the broad daylight it seems as quiet as any 4 am. Actually being Saturday, most people are not working... Whereas on a weekday people are more uptight in the morning & I think I can tell.

I like to think that if I was right here in a soundproof box & without a clock: I could tell what day it was or if it was a work day/sleepy quiet time or weekend just by the vibes. In other words: don't suck up the negative vibes from the ether & call them your own. It can be hard to do, sure.

Worrying or slacking is way easier than getting your own stuff done.

Fucking hell, your post made everything so clear. I actually realise now that what I was feeling last night was all the combined stress and worrys just hitting me at once. I am high right now and I feel absolutely fine.

You had a panic attack. Plain and simple and not really unusual, weed is known to trigger them sometimes. The best way to deal with them (I know from lots of first hand experience) is to just accept the feelings, recognize them as symptoms of panic and keep reminding yourself that you're just overthinking everything and that you will be fine soon. Trying to fight it makes it worse.

Paranoia sucks. I'm paranoid even when I'm not on drugs, but sometimes I just want to curl up and die from being paranoid (especially with shrooms).

I find that you just need to concentrate on why you are paranoid, and think about what would happen if you get caught. Once you realize that it isn't the end of the world your mind might begin to rationalize itself.

But then again it might not. Benzos, alcohol, even some chamomile tea can help with it alot.

I flushed a gram and a half of mids down the toilet today cuz I thought the cops were coming for me. I smoked about 3 joints during the first few hrs of the day, looked outside the window (I'm in a hotel right now) and saw a cop car right below my room so I thought it was for me, flushed the weed, and I was shaking and scared like crazy, then the cop gets back in his car 10 min later and drives off...now that's Paranoia...GOD DAMN I'm drunk and I want some weed...WTF WAS I THINKING

I have my occasional marijuana induced panic attack, and i have milder symptoms of paranoia probably about 1/3rd of the times i smoke.

i just kind of deal with it, as if i'm with friends, they'll calm me down. but if i'm alone things can get a little weird.

all in all, not a big deal, actually many times they've helped me scrutinize and get things done.
