You should get it professionally done. Not only will the actual piercing be healthier but I'm sure the piercer will able to answer all your questions in detail.

Once it completely heals I don't see why it would keep you from dipping. Just make sure to give it adequate time.

It may be a form of masochism but I would go with the fact that a good amount of people who pierce their bodies enjoy the feeling of the rush its gives them somewhat.

It is in fact mutilation. However the term self mutiliation has negative connotations associated with it, so most prefer the term body modification. I have several piercings myself, but i never got a "rush" from getting it done. It's quick, and and it's done. I know I got mine done as marks of events, though I can't speak for anyone else.

I also have never been, nor do I want to try, suspensions. Usually the people who do that are already inclined to believe they will have some grand experience while hanging, so they do. But, to each his own,
