Sounds like an okay deal, Walmart sells a brand new one for 150 but without the weights.

It's a scam!!!

I once bought a 500lb bench press off some bum for twenty bucks, but when I went to the gym, I was still doing 210. Nigga lied to me...

Don't believe anyone who tries to sell you a bench press, at any weight. Only buy bars, weights, and weight benches and racks. Using these will get you much farther...

Well, if we assume that the cost of raw iron is about $1/kilo, that makes almost half the cost covered by the price of scrap metal...

...so, does the parts that aren't the weights look like they're worth eighty bucks to you? Good bars, good bench (it HAS a bench, RIGHT?!?!?), decent padding, comfortable to use, yadda yadda?

Depending on how tricked out it is, it can go from a great deal to a shitty deal. I wouldn't pay eighty bucks for some 2x4 with legs. I *might* pay eighty bucks for a truly bitchin' bench rack where I could set one weight down, pick up the next, and keep going, or load the damn dumbells without having to move to extend my reach, if it was bitchin' enough.

I'd *definately* pay eighty bucks for a bench that would do the work while letting me keep the results, but I also know that those late-night infomercials - and everything else - that promise that claim are lying out their ass, so screw that...

Is it comfortable? Is it well-designed? On a general sense, his price is high for used and low for new, IMO, but... just how bitchin' is the thing? Quality and design can throw a wide range in there.

Hell - what would it cost you to build a better one from scratch? That's always an option...

my guess is the device looks like this:

http://www.ukfitnesssupplies.co.uk/m...td/BE005/55753

there are really good versions of this setup and also crappy versions.

a good version is worth $150.
a crappy version isn't worth buying.

Just my 2 cents, consider is the bar one solid 45lb Olympic type bar (as in not a 2 piece bar that fits together)? Does the bench have some bend when you put your back on it and shift your weight? If the first answer is yes and the second no, it seems like a pretty good deal. And hell, if he is your friend ask him if you can try it out and see how it works for you, nothing like a test drive! BTW how heavy are the two sets of dumbbells?

2 piece bar?
Never heard of one.
do they actually exist?
That's an accident waiting to happen.

and why would a bench that has "some bend when you put you back on it" be a good thing?
The best benches/supports are stout, with zero flex in any case.

But , yeah, try the device out.
If it has leg attachments, load them up and try them out. Some leg attachments are so poorly constructed as to be nearly useless.

So the springboard can do all the work when you bounce it off your chest, silly!
