Default So I'm shopping around for a cable company...

and have no idea what to look for

My family used to have cable, but we were stealing(?) it from a housing unit we owned way way back in the day. It's kind of hard to explain, but apparently a couple of years ago our unit downstairs had cable or something and it was disconnected and my dad just reconnected everything and everything was fine for 10+ years and we didn't even have to pay anything (yea, I'm not sure exactly wtf happened either). Anywho our cable got cut when the dude downstairs decided to upgrade the cable service and when he left, so did the cable.

But I digress, what cable companies do you guys have, and what experieces do you guys have with them? I'm only interested in cable tv and not high speed internet bundles with cable phones or whatnot.

Cox handles everything (TV, internet, phone) pretty well.

I've heard that AT&T U-verse is pretty good. I don't know if they have it in your area though. You can search their website and see if it's available out there.

usually there's only one cable company in a given area. sometimes there's two, and i imagine a place like los angeles has two because there's so many people. then you got your satelite dish options, direct tv and dish.

look up what cable company(s) is in your area, man. compare costs and go with what's cheaper. cable's cable.

i had adelphia until time warner bought them out. haven't had any problems with either company.

quality/channel selection wise, how does satellite compare with cable?

I've never had satellite but I would think the quality would be similar. The difference is that your TV is travelling through the air so if there's a solar flare, your TV goes out.

A friend of mine wanted to get satellite so they came and surveyed his house, they said he would have to have a few trees cut down for them to be able to do it. So if there's tall trees or other taller buildings next to yours it might not be feasible.

I have comcast for TV and internet. Their customer service is fucking awful if you ever have to deal with them.

Question Re: So I'm shopping around for a cable company...

Why would you want cable when you have internet? There's this thing called downloading now. Just get Verizon highspeed.
Oh, and whatever you do, don't get Comcast anything because they're evil.
