6 gigs ram
7200 RPM 640 GB HDD
PNY NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
SoundBlaster X-FI
24 inch dell widescreen LCD

Nothing's wrong with the quad core. Your vid card is junk, and 6 GB of RAM is useless, for a "gaming rig". You use 6GB or more in a fairly high load server, in a medium volume network environment.

Re: how does this sound (gamer rig)
6 GB RAM is overkill, you wasted your money. 4GB is the max you'll need for gaming with modern setups, because by the time you need more than 4 GB for gaming, you'll need a whole new PC anyway.
Gfx card is not bad, thought you should have gone for a 9800GT or 8800GT, much better value for money.

You utter bellend, I say that with the utmost sympathy. A dual core e8200 overclocked using a scythe ninja2, 4 gigs ram, 4870, much better plan...

that utter bellend comment made me laugh. hard
Make sure the cache on your quad core is 12mb otherwise its not as efficient as some dual cores..

Agreed. 9800/4870 if you use a nvidia chipset go the 9800, any other and get the ATI...

This is where I tell you that you are wrong. I regularly use 7gig of ram gaming. I therefore must say that 6gig of ram is not useless.

This is correct. But you can also use that much ram gaming... As I do.
