Will I become physically addicted to alcohol on 6 beers a night?
I found 6 is the perfect number and I've had about 6 a night for the past 2 months....
I've gone a night or two without drinking and found my sleep would be restless but that was it.
But the things is, I never have to pay for em. And the fridge is always stocked. My willpower is extremely weak and if a beer is there I'll always drink it. And I haven't gained alot of weight or experienced any health risks, so I see no reason not to drink every night....yet.
So if I drink 6 a night for a year, at 170lbs, what would be the health risk, if any? And would I reach a level of alcoholism where it'd be dangerous to quit cold turkey?
Thanks, and if this belongs in another forum I'd appreciate a mod moving it there.

If you're drinking 6 beers a night, you are an alcoholic.
Maybe you're using the fact that you've only been drinking for two months as a crutch, but you have to face the facts.
You're in the first stages of alcoholism.

You are only an alcoholic if you go to meetings. Otherwise you are just a drunk.

My neighbor is a non-functional alcoholic, and when he doesn't drink... God. All I can say is, It makes me never want to drink again.

Michelob Ultra Lights. Bottles.
And I should have said "physically addicted" instead of "alcohlic" because I am for sure an alcohlic, atleast psychologically because I enjoy drinking alot now - by myself at home. But I am starting to worry about the health risks of alcoholism.
Thanks for the responses so far. Looks like I'll have to come up with a strategy to avoid the fridge.

Re: Will I become an alcoholic on 6 beers a night?
I wouldn't call you an alcoholic just yet, I don't think you are really drinking enough for you to be termed as such. I would call you a heavy drinker.
HOWEVER, if you should continue with this habit, you will most likely gradually increase the amount you drink.. which pretty much everyone does, and you already said you don't have much self-control.
Pretty sure if you enjoy drinking every day, you aren't gonna just suddenly decide to stop drinking after a year of heavy drinking, keeping in mind your self-control issues again.
Prolonged excessive alcohol consumption will lead to liver problems. Should you actually stop drinking after a year of heavy drinking, than chances are your liver will recover and be as healthy as ever, but should you continue drinking... for say oh.. 10 years, you would most likely have cirrhosis of the liver, which if you aren't careful, will kill you. It's normally picked up by people vomiting huge amounts of blood, and by the time that happens, people are usually in the advanced stages of liver failure.

I would assume that a heavy drinker = the beginning stage of alcoholism.

Re: Will I become an alcoholic on 6 beers a night?
Alcoholism is actually pretty tricky to define. It depends on a lot of different parameters.
The point is to judge for yourself how you feel about it. Just use a little intuition. If you start to crave it at times where you normally wouldn't, then you can start to reconsider your situation.
The fact that you're only drinking at night is, to me, a pretty good sign that you're not an alcoholic. I mean, what kind of addict waits to get "high"?

Re: Will I become an alcoholic on 6 beers a night?
Your not an alcoholic until you can't function without it.
So don't let these other faggots tell you your an alcoholic with your 6 pack of ultra light beer.
It's not for them to decide anyway. It's on you.

Become is not the right tense to be using..... there have been cases of persons who drank only one pint of beer each day having physical withdrawal when hospitalized.

This.
Alcoholism isn't deemed upon someone based by simply the quantity of consumption. There are other (and more contributing IMO) factors to it.
When you can't function without it, think about it all day long, squander paying bills and shit in order to save up your booze money, or neglect basic responsibilities for the sake of drinking...those are bigger signs then drinking 6 beers a night.
Lol 6 beers....

Re: Will I become an alcoholic on 6 beers a night?
You aren't an alcoholic.
Seriously. I used to drink at least that much every night but a couple months ago I decided to take a break cause I needed some extra cash. I quit cold turkey after probably 1.5 years of drinking every day (and plenty of drinking before that) and I had NO withdrawl symptoms. I won't lie I did kind of crave it for the first couple days but I just blazed a bit more and I was fine.
It's worth noting that if you get absolutely sloshed off those 6 beers then, yes you probably are an alcoholic, but Im guessing thats not the case. I find bud is much harder to get off of, I've been trying to kick it for a while and I still blaze all day long (and I work 40 hours a week).
I think as long as your not thinking about drinking during the day your golden. A good test would be whenever your going to the fridge and you think about this thread or whatever just dont drink that night, if you can do that a couple times a week and not feel dissappointed or crave drinking your fine. in my opinion at least.
