| Games People Play Games People Play is where to discuss personal computer, video game console, and arcade hardware and software - be it RPG, Sim, Strategy, Fighting, Action/Platform, or any other category. Although discussion of modern platforms/software will most likely dominate, discussion of classic videogame/computer hardware and software is always enjoyable, and certainly welcome - ESPECIALLY since there are public domain/shareware emulators of nearly every older computer/console available these days. Here's a taste of what awaits you: Nintendo-vs-Sega-vs-Sony, Console-vs-PC-vs-Mac, Hardware spec sheets/information, Industry news and discussion, Software reviews, IRC conference announcements/Reports, Emulators, Emulators, Emulators! ... and much, much more! |

Mass Effect for the PC.
I just picked it up. Does it take a crazy PC to run it? I don't have the PC I plan on running it on right now so I can't post its stats or whatever. Probably the most graphicly advanced game I have ever played on it was Jade Empire with the highest settings on it. And it ran fine with the exception of crappy loading screens.
Anyways other than being pretty short I heard this game was awesome, am I going to be disappointed?

Re: Mass Effect for the PC.
I'd say a gig of some decent ram and at LEAST a 6800gt(higher definitely recommended) or equivalent to play it comfortably.

Re: Mass Effect for the PC.
It requires 1gb of RAM.
I have no fucking clue about computers honestly all I know is that means Random something Memory. But my computer is a generic HP pavilion that I put a voodoo video card into.

Its not very complicated, you'll pretty much be straight unless you have a integrated video card, which you obviously dont.

Thanks for the help. I'm not that worried cause this isn't like Crysis quality graphics but it's pretty damn good.

Re: Mass Effect for the PC.
It's a good game, the story was decent (Better than most of the games that come out now-a-days) however I still felt for a Bioware game it could have been better. Graphics are great but make sure you turn of the grain filter effect in addition to the motion blur effect (It's a quite commonly shared opinion that these two settings make the game look like shit although some small minority of people might like it). Combat is pretty solid for what it is, only four guns to choose from and the sniper rifle is fairly useless IMO and the pistol and assasult rifle were all you needed. I thought the biotic powers were poorly done, I just found myself not using them much and what I did need I got from my companions. Make sure you download the Bioware DLC (Think it was free for the PC version could be mistaken though) because it is easily the best side quest in the game. Egh, could write more but you should just play it for yourself. But overall I would give the game 8.5/10.

Nice, on the box it says all addons are free from their website. I love Bioware games, but they always make it so good characters get the better part of the game.
I know you can choose what to say in it but is the same good/evil thing Bioware puts in their games?

Not really, the good/evil spectrum becomes the paragon/renegade spectrum in Mass Effect. However the renegade speech besides being weak as shit really just turns you into a prick commander (As opposed to killing everything in sight ala Knights of the Old Republic) who sounds like an asshole. Everynow and then there are decent renegade actions where you get to choose whether to kill someone or not but by and large the renegade dialouge comes off very badly. Paragon is definately the way to go your first play through imo, and in addition I thought the female voice actor for Shepard (Main PC) did a much better job than the male voice actor.
Korgan was my favorite NPC companion though, definately recommend using him during your first play through.
