Okay here is whats going on: I am getting a job at a Warehouse for a big company. They are starting me off at 14/hr and there is lots of room to move up in this monster corporation.

I realize moving up is not a simple walk in the park though. I realize I will have to act ruthless and focused. I am planning on getting my forklift licence.

Some of my pros are: Smart, Hard-working,

Cons: Kind of awkward in social situations.

Anyone here have any tips on how to move up in a company.

Any "suck the bosses dick" comments will be ignored and unheeded.

Get someone higher up fired or become really specialized at a particular skill required for the job and be the go-to guy for it.

dont be authorative over other workers, just work hard, know your shit and blow your boos.

Yeah, okay I will work overtime too that is a good idea. As for the oral sex comments: my uncle is a higher up at the company so I will have to say no to any kind of homosexual incest.

A business/marketing degree would help a lot working at just about any large corporation. Even an associates would put you ahead of the others.

Okay, what you need to do is find the job on the first day you move in before 8am (or 9am) so that your needs are all completely filled and you'll probably get a promotion on your first day.

If you're lucky this will extend to the second day with minimal effort.

I may try that.

I like the idea of specializing in a certain field. I will attempt that and also attempt to work overtime to show enthusiasm.

What worries me the most is the possibility and probable likelyhood of there being smart-asses who will make jokes about me and get under my skin.

I have a problem dealing with people IRL. When strangers or even people I know, make stupid jokes directed at me I get a panic attack and make a fool out of myself. I fucking hate it and when I have to work with people who put me in that situation I begin to dread work and usually eventually quit.

Read it. Live it. It will address most of your concerns. And realize that realistically, "as fast as possible" likely isn't going to be nearly as fast as you want.

Ok.

Get your forklift certification, then get your First Aid certification, then sign up to take a course on workplace safety and get your credentials in it. Get involved in the union, if there is one. Getting your trucking license isn't a bad idea. Also, become familiar with the systems that the organization have in place.

Build your resume, apply for internal job postings. Make sure your bosses know that you want to move up within the company; demonstrate competence.

Don't hesitate to bring a dozen donuts to work every so often. If you're going to grab a coffee, ask if anybody wants one.

This is all good advice. Remember to work your fucking ass off. Get to work early, leave late. Before you leave, always ask "is there anything else you need?" By trucking licence I think he meant CDL, commercial driver's license. That'll help a lot.

Advice I plan to follow. The only thing that could hinder me is my sleeping problem and my anxiety. Problems I am trying to get a grasp on. I plan on going to my DOC and getting some Valium or something for emergency situations. For sleep marijuana helps me.

So would the CDL just be a license for driving those big rigs? Why would that help me if I am not planning on driving one of those?

I wish i still had that picture of a bicycle helmet with the handle-bar assembly on top of it.

Thats the only way to move up in a company.

You put on some knee-pads, strap the helmet on, get down on your knees, have your boss unzip and grab the handle bars on your helmet and go to town.

10-30 minutes later, you have a promotion and/or a raise.

Working hard and being charismatic is what will make you rise through the ranks quickly. Your lack of social skills may inhibit this. Go out with your work mates for a few beers every now and then.

It would demonstrate a familiarity with the industry; dedication is important and it will help you to have an informed conversation with the drivers. Being well-informed is a big part of moving up in a company.

Suggest ways to improve the workplace to your boss. Don't make it formal or authoritative. When he/she is telling you what the work you have to do is, casually provide suggestions.

Become good at your job so your colleagues come to you for advice. Again don't be authoritative or take a formal leadership position. Become someone who leads by example.

Well I've moved from Assistant to Officer in six months and will be Manager in three months all due to my (former) boss being a disgruntled, cynical war veteran with cancer who quit. I was waiting in the wings. Makes them power plays. Take the upper hand when you can.
