| Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net. |

Re: Need help finding a number list
All you are doing is printing out the value of "x", then adding one to it, and printing it again. You will stop once "x=targetNumber". Simple as.
Download this:
http://www.netbeans.org/
Then learn some basic Java.

Re: Need help finding a number list
Why would you advise him to learn java? With something small and trivial like this, the JVM start-up time will take longer than the complete runtime of the program.
I started writing this, then I realized that the program "seq" is exactly what you want.
Coreutils wins again.

Re: Need help finding a number list
A simple C program would suffice, although generating something that large would suck up some CPU depending on what you wanted it to do..(output the numbers to a file or continue on into another routine, etc.).

Re: Need help finding a number list
Thanks for the constructive responses guys, and I'm not really willing to learn a language to complete this task. I was hoping there was a file already out there or program that would generate the list through simple user input. Well if it dose not exist or someone is unable to easily do it then its nothing that wont kill me.

The program 'seq' from GNU coreutils has the functionality you need.
You are running Gnu/Linux, right?

Not right now, but I have had lots of past experience with a few distros. Would any of the live CD's come preinstalled with this app, as i don't want to spend much time partitioning and installing it just to download one package for an app ill use once.

Hehehe. I love how Prometheum always has a way to implement "GNU/Linux" into his posts. It's amazing

Re: Need help finding a number list
I can see it being more easily written in perl then C, that's just opinion though.

Because it's useful to know some languages. If he knew them initially, this thread wouldn't be here.
Any language would suffice for such a simple task, was just the first one that came to my head.
As far as something pre-written goes. If you don't want to do what prometheum suggested, then a dictionary maker could do this.
