Is it just me or does it seem like everytime weed is depicted in a movie its always in joint form? Sometimes you see a few bongs or blunts here and there, but it seems like 90% theyre smoking a J.

My theory is that if its rolled up in a cig it looks less like a drug. Its more like a cigarette. An elaborate glass bong can conjure ideas of hard drugs and shit maybe. Kinda like crack and meth are smoked out of glass pipes so people might associate paraphernalia with other drugs.

I think its because they aren't creative, and they would probably get flack from the media for showing such things as bongs and pipes.

they show a bunch of bongs in grandma's boy and there was billy bong thornton in half baked and in pcu people are hitting bongs. in pineapple express there aren't many scenes where they're taking bong rips because they're running around the whole movie so it makes sense that they would smoke mainly joints.

True, I have seen more joints than anything else.

But what about Brad Pitt's honey bear bong in True Romance? That was pretty comical and creative.

Whenever people smoke weed in mainstream movies, they act like one hit of it is just harshest craziest thing ever. You never see anyone straight toking away, taking in big ol puffs. Kinda says something about the "depth" of the research actors'/director's do while making another dumb stoner flick.

Because smoking joints used to be much more popular back in the day than it is now. It doesnt matter how the movie depicts that they were smoking weed, they just have to be smoking weed and everybody knows what a joint is.
