Just got a quad core...
Holy fuck. Best 190 I've ever spent on my comp. Had a 3.2 ghz Single core with H/T from 2005 for 3 years before i decided to want to grab a QC. Even then I didnt. The reason I have one now is that my brother bought one, and was too stupid to check the box of his mobo, which says "only dual or single cores". Anyways, bought it off him, love it. 60+ fps in COD4 with my 9600gt, insane load speeds, and I can't wait to overclock this. Its a Q660. Any sites with overclocking guides specifically for quad cores?

Re: Just got a quad core...
I think overclocking has more to do with your motherboard than the cpu. And make sure you have a legit cooling system if your going to oc that bad mother.

Haha stock heatsink that came for it. Not going to buy water cooling. This should be fine though, for like another .6 per core, right?

Re: Just got a quad core...
So they really make that much of a difference, huh? That's pretty cool. I'm gonna have to get a new mobo if I ever go quad-core, I still have an AMD socket 939.
For now I'm pretty happy with my AMD Athlon X2 4200+ though.

Actually, if you're room temps are pretty cool, and your case gets good airflow, the stock heatsink will most likely be sufficient, up to 3Ghz.

I call BS. COD4 supports quad core processors but does not utilize all 4 cores. It's going to be years until we start to see standard games use more then 2 cores. Also, FPS is more dependent on video cards then processors so if you did see a boost in FPS it would be marginal (2-5 fps's). The Q6600 is a great CPU so i do commend you on getting it. It also OC's like a champ and runs relatively cool. But it is still very recommended that you get a third party Cooler instead of the one that came with it if you plan on overclocking. You can pick one up for ~25$. Also, before you go crazy and start ramping up the Vcore and FSB i would do a little research on your mo0therboard and power supply and see if it's logical to start overclocking. Chances are you won't even notice the difference in your daily tasks so it wouldn't be economical for you to OC it. One more thing, if you want a guide on how to overclock your CPU then use google.

Yes yes, i know. Listen to me. I put in the QC, fired up COD 4. not a single laggy frame on max res and settings. Put in my old cpu, same settings. 5 fps. 55 second load times. You be the judge.
Edit: Got a 1333mhz supported FSB, dunno what its at atm. Was asking for a guide if you knew one in particular, google can be a shot in the dark some times.

Well i'd be glade to help you, post your motherboard specs and such and i'll see what i can do. What i did to learn was i searched google for "Q6600 OC guide with 680i LT" (cuz i have a 680i MB" and went from there. The Q6600 is a huge seller so chances are there is someone els out there with your exact specs who has successfully OC'd it and wrote a guide. I even found Youtube videos on how to do it but they really weren't needed because i did the proper research before hand.
Also, if it's an Nvidia board then most likely there are official guids over at nvidia.com

Well when I first built this comp, AMD was actually creaming Intel in the processor war for some time. After the next gen Core 2 Duos came out, however, AMD didn't stand a chance.
AMD Athlon X2 > Intel Pentium D
Intel Core 2 Duo > AMD Athlon X2
Intel Quad cores = PWN EVERYTHING!!
So yeah, if I upgrade it will probably be an Intel.
