Question The serpent of Eden

I read Genesis for a little bit, and when I came to the 3 chapter, concerning the snake and original sin. I read it over a few times and it became confusing. Why do so many fundamentalists claim the snake was Satan. The Bible says nothing of the sort, I wonder why they've imposed this

well...I recall hearing/reading somewhere a similar discussion of the role of the serpent and satan...that satan simply "took the form of"/"possessed" the serpent...now the serpent, though through no fault of its own, tempted Eve with the fruit under the influence of Satan...this point of view was also shared by Milton in Paradise Lost...
and as for the actual mention of the snake/serpent in Genesis, it must depend on which version of the Bible u read...I remember reading "and God cast the serpent to the ground and said, for what you have done you shall crawl on your belly and eat dirt for the rest of your days. now enemy of man shall you be and he of you. he shall strike at your head and you shall strike at his heel..." or something along those lines...so it is, in fact, mentioned.

"The huge dragon was hurled down. That ancient serpent, called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world, was hurled down to the earth, along with its angels."

Revelation 12:9

They probably make that connection, or just some line of reasoning of: Serpent bad, Satan bad, therefore Satan was the serpent.

I certainly hope not. That's a terrible line of reasoning that's like saying "Tom is a human, Anne is a human, therefore Tom is Anne" or "communists support welfare, liberal democrats support welfare, therefore liberal democrats are communists".

I know it's terrible. Terrible reasoning seems quite fitting in a person that believes in talking snakes and demons in the first place...

I wonder why anyone would make any significance of the name Satan as opposed to the idea of evil or temptation - that being which the serpent represents. Besides, being only the first book of the Pentateuch, you have touched the waters though, you know not yet the god of Israel.

IMHO, the serpent part of the Eden myth relates to the aquatic theory of human evolution--for details, see the book "The Ascent of Woman" by Elaine Noble.

Gee, do you think you could you elaborate a little? How does it relate? Yeah, we're familiar with the aquatic theory, but what the hell do you have in mind?

the serpent = kundalini

the fall of kundalini = orgasmic sex resulting in the release of said kundalini energy which travels downwards through the kundabuffer creating "satan's tail"
