Default Flesh eating insects used to be prevalent in North America

And we pulled a fucking genocide on their ass. Most awesome thing I've seen in a while.

Wow I had no idea. I knew about insect sterilization, but I didn't know we went genocide on flesh-eating flies! Let's do this to mosquitoes, deer flies, and horse flies too. And ticks. They can't be THAT important to the food chain, right?

The worms only eat necrotic or badly diseased flesh.

Fuck yeah, let's kill 'em! Nature will find a way to increase the population of other insects so that the predators of the ones we kill off still have food. By nature I mean the bio-genetics team at Purdue University.

On a side note, when I was at Rothbury Festival I noticed a huge lack in the attendance of insects. This despite the fact the festival was held in the woods in Michigan near Lake Michigan. Whatever they did before everyone got there was awesome and greatly appreciated.
