Default Mineral lime

I need to know if i can safely use mineral lime in a bufotenin extraction procedure...It is not pure lime and is not even calcium hydroxide the form i need of the lime. The mix consists of Calcium, Magnesium, Calcium oxide, Magnesium oxide, Calcium carbonate, Magnesium carbonate. Will any of these negatively react with lye, water, isopropryl alcohol or acetone. And is there any way to convert the calcium, calcium oxide, and calcium carbonate all too calcium hydroxide and remove all of the magnesium based chemicals. The extraction guide i am using is form this erowid experience:http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=64707

Why did you make a new thread for this?

Grr, this is so messy..

1. Just straight Calcium is one of the ingredients? There can't just be elemental Calcium in there it's to reactive..
2. Why don't you just go out and buy either Calcium Oxide or Calcium Hydroxide the stuff is freely avaiable like everywhere?!
3. What's this about lye?! You're going to need to explain to me why you need NaOH [when it isn't mentioned in that experience report, and you're planning to use Calcium Hydroxide as your base].
4. Also note that NaOH is going to fuck up your chemical if you are not real careful with the pH, the -OH on the ring there is going to form a phenoxide and you'll just end up with the sodium salt of the stuff which is supposedly no good.

Anyways, none of those are bad, minus the 'elemental calcium' which will react violently with air/water ----> CaO/CaOH of course that wont happen.. I'm also sure it'll work fine for your reaction, I know traditionally they just grind up limestone/burnt shells and mix it with the seeds and that still works [and can't be very pure]. I'm still kinda confused about the NaOH but I'll assume you know what you're doing.

I think i just got it mixed up with some other reaction i was reading up on...I'm not using lye anywhere...And as far as the rest of it goes I will get back to you about my finished product

And my reasoning for making a new thread was noone was responding to the old one

No big deal, but next time bump it. You aren't a regular here so I can't tell you to use the bullshit thread, and most likely an unknown name would go ignored in there anyway, so, no problem making a thread, and I will leave this open for further discussion of the compound in question (not lime) and to give you a place to brag about your yield.

Be theoretical though. You never extracted or made anything illegal, someone you know was merely asking about it. Or, you did it in a country where it IS legal.

Ok, since you bumped the other thread, this will be locked to avoid clutter.
