Torrents
So guys, I think I must be retarded. I have a 7 month old MacBook (bought for the school year) version 10.5.4 and I want to get some movies downloaded so that I can watch them. I know that torrents are used for this but I have absolutely no idea how to use them. I tried downloading bittorrent and etc. but for some reason I couldn't get it working.
Any of you have a good torrent recommendation for Macs and want to walk me through the steps going from downloading the torrent to settling in to watch free movies? I would appreciate it.

Re: Torrents
Download Transmission: http://www.transmissionbt.com/download.php
Install.
Go here: www.torrentscan.com
Search for movies, music, apps, etc.
When you find what you want, download the torrent. A torrent is a small file that'll direct the downloading of the movie, more or less.
Load (or open) the torrent file in transmission and download your warez.
What movie are you looking for? I might have a direct download link for ya.
Peace.

And they will...
until you learn to forward your ports. What I gave you was a basic example of how to use torrents. Now, to forward your ports and learn what it is and why you should do it, go here: http://www.portforward.com/help/pfprogression.htm
Peace.
EDIT: Also, I forgot to mention this in my earlier post, but when you download the torrent files, you should download the ones with alot of seeds. Seeders are people offering up the movie. The more of them, the more connections you have, the faster the movie downloads.

Re: Torrents
you should also try avoiding downloading torrents that dont have any comments posted if the seed ratio isnt that high, because it might be bunk. piratebay is a good website for torrents, demonoid aswell but you need an invite

Re: Torrents
Okay a torrent is downloaded, but what do I play it on? Transmission or is there another program I have to get?

You downloaded a torrent file. Now load it into transmission to download the file you want.
Example: You want The Dark Knight. You download a torrent for it. You load the torrent into Transmission. Dark Knight begins to download. When finished, you watch it with Quicktime or VLC media player.
Peace.

Re: Torrents
Don't use Azureus. It eats memory like there is no tomorrow. I've run it on windows, linux, and mac and I know that it's like this. It uses more memory than itunes and firefox 3 put together (yeah, I know!)
It does this mostly because it's running on top of the JRE and was programmed by highschool java students using bluej (not really, but you'd think that with how terribly slow it is). Even if you do have a few extra gb of memory, it's simply not worth it.

Even though most of the time I promote Transmission, I use Azureus. I use if for the Safepeer plugin. It's a bitch to use though. I have to boot Windows to use Blocklist Manager, generate a Safepeer Blocklist, export it to the desktop as a file, move this to the Mac desktop, close Windows, then replace the old cache file. Then launch Azureus and download my stuff.
It's alot to do and Azureus does suck up the memory like theres no tomorrow, but I feel safer knowing the bullshit scammers and spammers are blocked from my machine.
Peace.
