Origin of the Jew-Money stereotype
i actually know what it is. i saw it referenced in another thread here (the band around the dollar bills at the FR) so i thot id share with you
WHY do jews tend to be rich? because they tend to work with their minds, not their hands
WHY do jews tend to work with their minds and not their hands?
because, until recently, there was no jewish homeland. a wandering people. thus, most ancient nations had laws that jews couldnt own land and thus they couldnt be farmers (predecessor to all min wage jobs of today)
instead of farming like everyone else, jews had to be doctors and lawyers and scholars and merchants...this kind of carried thru the generations. eventually, those professions became the wealthy ones and farming became, well, none of us want to be farmers.
thus, we control hollywood. cackle.

Re: Origin of the Jew-Money stereotype
The cristian church in the middle ages saw banking and other simmilar jobs to be immoral. So christians had no part in the industry, and it was dominated by Jews.
p.s. If you look at russian history there were shit-loads of Jewish farmers.

Not true... the Templars essentially were the banks of the middle ages... even the Arabs were using them for banking.

I hate to cite wikipedia, but;

In most of Europe up until the late 18th century, and in some places to an even later date, Jews were prohibited by Roman Catholic governments (and others) from owning land. On the other hand, the Church, because of a number of Bible verses forbidding usury, declared that charging any interest was against the divine law, and this prevented any mercantile use of capital by pious Christians. As the Canon law did not apply to Jews, they were not liable to the ecclesiastical punishments which were placed upon usurers by the popes. Christian rulers gradually saw the advantage of having a class of men like the Jews who could supply capital for their use without being liable to excommunication, and the money trade of western Europe by this means fell into the hands of the Jews. However, in almost every instance where large amounts were acquired by Jews through banking transactions the property thus acquired fell either during their life or upon their death into the hands of the king. This happened to Aaron of Lincoln in England, Ezmel de Ablitas in Navarre, Heliot de Vesoul in Provence, Benveniste de Porta in Aragon, etc. It was for this reason indeed that the kings supported the Jews, and even objected to their becoming Christians, because in that case they could not have forced from them money won by usury. Thus both in England and in France the kings demanded to be compensated for every Jew converted. The result was the stereotypical Jewish role as bankers and merchants.

I mean sure, they could be wrong but it sound's like something catholics would do.

Re: Origin of the Jew-Money stereotype
Not that I know what the fuck I'm talking about, but...
I'm pretty sure I learned in Jewish 101 class back in college that they were given the job of collecting taxes, since no else wanted to do it. Hence, the banking route.
