Default Any engineers?

Here's the problem.
My current profession sucks so I'm thinking about going back to engineering, which i previously in but dropped out into education.

However, engineering is hard as fuck, job opportunities seem low, due to the fact that here, our city already used up all the money for building everything that they need engineers to build for the next decade or so. (olympics)

It's also a sausage fest + I would have to give up my social life if i want to succeed as an engineer.

So, to the engineers out there, is the work worth it?

In the UK, its the 6th best paying job
theres alot of contract and permanant work going around, once youve got the physics side of it and remember the names of shit its basic..
check your local college's etc usually they'll do work based apprenticeships.

if you REALLY wanna do this you might have to move city
(im gonna guess your from london?)

I'm an engineer and definitely didn't have to give up my social life for it, college wasn't as intense as some people made it out to be. Don't get me wrong it was difficult, but save for one or two semesters I never really felt that overworked. I guess part of it depends on how well you can budget your time and prioritize.
In my area at least, there's plenty of temp and contract work available for engineers and I got myself a thoroughly interesting temp job right now, so I'm glad I went for engineering.

You're making it sound easy.
I was thinking about going into electronic. During my first year I remember struggling to just pass. I did pass but I after spending nearly all my available time studying.
My math/physics is horrible. I tried an old government exam for high school senoirs and just met the an A grade.
How were your grades during college MCom?

Temp/Contract work doesnt seem to offer much security in the long run.

Think winter olympics.

there will always be jobs for engineering, maybe not always glamorous big jobs, but none the less a solid decent job. you may have to travel a bit, but engineers will always be in demand, are there any cities up and coming around where you live? you may be thrown smaller jobs at first but with experience, you will go a long way.

Well if your math and physics is horrible then you should probably pick something else or your life will just become a constant struggle to get by. EE is very math intensive and the math just gets more abstract as you go.
Unless you for some reason really really want to get in to engineering, then maybe take some math courses as a non-matriculated student somewhere just to get yourself up to speed a bit before you enroll full time.
