Before I start let me just point out that my area is extremely over populated with rabbits. They are fucking everywhere. If you go on a 5 minute walk in any direction you will see rabbits. They are all tiny, skinny rabbits because there isn't enough food for them all.
Yesterday at around 8pm I was leaving my house when I heard a rustling in my front garden. I looked closer and saw that there were around 3 TINY rabbits. I tried to catch them all but after I caught the first one I went inside to get a cage and when I came back out the other ones were gone. I don't know where the mother is, it was no where insight. Its possible she was just gone for a little while but she could also be dead. A lot of rabbits get hit by cars and killed by cats etc etc.
I own a beagle (rabbit hunting hound) and a cat. The fact that these rabbits decided to nest in my front garden (which provides very little cover and must have the sent of cat and dog all around it) shows just how over populated these rabbits are. Thats why I don't feel bad about taking this one. If I left it in the wild theres a good chance it would quickly die. Best case senerio it lives to adulthood and then struggles to not stave to death.
Either way the rabbits around here are considered a nuisance because they ruin everyones gardens and theres so fucking many of them. So if your going to tell me to let it go, just stfu. I am not letting it go. Its cute, and I like him/her so I'm keeping it. If rabbits were not insanely overpopulated here then I would let it go, but thats not the case. Theres too fucking many of them in nature right now so I'm going to domesticate this one.
Anyways, its about the size of a hamster and runs pretty fast. Right now I'm keeping it in a hamster cage but I let it out to run around my room a few times a day. I figure it needs to build its leg muscles through exercise. At first it was terrified of me but after I held it for a while it began to fear me less. It still tries to run away from me sometimes but its definitely more relaxed then the first day.
I am naming it Hazel-Rah Hopperstean. Its first name hazel-rah is derived from one of my favorite books, Watership Down and Its last name just makes me laugh.
I'm not sure how old it is, but I'm guessing 1&1/2 - 3 weeks old. I know that after 14 days they start eating solid food so I hope its past the 2 week point. I made a video of it running around but im not sure how to upload it. Heres some pics of it.
