What's to be done with the excess plant matter? Are there still some cannibinoids? How about the chance there's still some THC?

Where is optimal to keep the jar?

You do not have to wait a month, if you heat it it'll work right then. If you want to let it sit then stick it in your closet and wait about a week or 2 . I would heat it let it simmer for about 20 mins and filter out the particles while still warm. There will still be some actives in the plant although very little.
