scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
A while back I read information on PsiPog about how to construct and use a psi wheel. I made it, and it began working in about half an hour.
http://www.psipog.net/art-telekinesis-tips.html
I've heard ideas about how convection currents supposedly explain them.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psi_whe...cs_explanation
But what about cases where the psi wheel is under a glass container? I haven't gotten it to work yet that way, but hopefully I will be able to eventually in order to confirm it for myself.
Anyway, glass prevents gusts of air from moving the psi wheel. That's one thing, but also... glass is a thermal insulator. That's why we can use it for our windows. So long as the user isn't placing their hands against the glass, I'd think the heat from the person's hand would be negligible.
I've heard suggestions that it may work due to electrical or magnetic forces produced by the body. An interesting article I found is here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1353653 (Detection of extraordinary large bio-magnetic field strength from human hand during Qi emission)
It's from some Japanese university, and it's from 1992. I'm not sure how reliable it is, but it looks like a lead.
Any ideas?

Re: scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
well, have you tried putting the psi wheel behind glass?
if you did, and it didnt show any trend as compared to if the glass wasnt there, then the argument for the rejection of telekinesis is stronger

Re: scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
You should be able to control the psi wheel. If it spins when you hold your hand in a certain way it would be due to convection or air current caused by evaporation or ionic effects. You should be able to move and stop and reverse it at will.

Re: scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
First post!
Anyway, read
http://www.thekeyboard.org.uk/Uncove...i%20wheel.html
for some tests of thermal currents and psi wheels. Shows that the common method of hands next to psi wheel cause it to move through some thermal interaction.
This youtube video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5NwRfMJgOQ
shows the psi wheel being moved under glass. The video does appear to be 'jumpy' in places, however I can't see how this could be done by trickery yet.
So far it looks like it MIGHT be possible, but who knows. Keep practicing and post a video if you manage to do this =)

I found that latter video not long ago, and after looking it up found out that it was faked. The author said how he did it on some forum. He'd have to be VERY good at telekinesis to do something like that, anyway.
When I put a glass container around the pinwheel it does stop working... so apparently it works against whatever effect is taking place. But on the other hand, it works (albeit more slowly) when my hand is 3 or 4 inches away. And often it can start up almost immediately after I put my hand next to it.
http://www.psipog.net/media-annie.html
Here's one of Annie doing it with a glass cover. One thing she does, though, is touch the glass with her fingertips. I'm not sure what effect that has on it. How long would it take to heat up the air under the glass by doing that?
I have an idea. My attic at my home can get up to 110°F. If I could perform it there with the same reaction, would that show something? There's a thermometer to tell what the current temperature is.

I would guess a psi wheel works on similar principles.

Not only is she touching the glass but she also shakes it to get the thing spinning.

Re: scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
Maybe telekenetic energy can't move through glass...

Re: scientific explanation for "psi wheels"
Uhh, well I claim that all psychic powers are fake.
Being a magician (yeah...a magician, this seems to come up on totse more and more now), I can perform any of these psiwheel effects using perfectly ordinary and common objects, all I have to do is make you think I am doing something paranormal, when it is in fact an illusion.
Some of these people are convinced there are psiwheels, but I can gurantee anything that can be done using "psiwheels" I can do with some sort of trickery.
This further leads me to believe it is all totally fake.

These "psi wheels" and "psi balls" are just a huge internet hoax, correct?
If not,please explain?

How would you make a non-metallic psi-wheel rotate inside a sealed glass chamber at distance?

Generally I'd shim it and use a magnetic device.
However in this case he used a magnet to show the paper wasn't magnetic in any way.
I'd just use invisible thread (no, not REAL invisible thread, that's just what it is called) attached at either end and control it with that. I'd run it underneath the glass bowel and it'd work. It's very common to do stuff like this in the magic business.

The glass bowel... lulz.
In the guy that the video made, he explained that he used two tubes running through the table's legs up to the paper pinwheel and had someone else blow into them as he did his hand motions.
It could be that placing your hand next to the psi wheel can cause it to rotate without any psychic effect. It would explain how I was able to do it fairly easily from the beginning (within half an hour). But apparently some people use the psi wheel as a stepping stone to learning more advanced telekinesis.
I'm trusting that the videos on Psipog's website weren't purposefully faked. I went onto their IRC channel a few times and they didn't talk as though they were faking it. In particular I remember one girl saying that she really enjoyed rolling a pencil around, but it kept falling off her desk.
Ho hum...
Anyway, assuming that there is something real behind these abilities, how would they work? I don't believe in magic or the supernatural. But I do think that something real is going on here, and that there's a physical explanation for it.
