For one, if you used enough "s00per 1337 th3rmite skillz" to burn through a safe, you'd probably burn and or melt everything inside of it too. Don't be an idiot. Likewise, i'm assuming that the OP was asking about lockpicking and not bold cutters due to the lack of evidence it leaves behind when compared to a cut/missing lock. Figures, the first post being something ridiculous like that. Then again this is BI, it would amaze me if more than a handfull of people here have ever made or used thermite. Fuck, things like that really piss me off.

As for the OP's question, just google "MIT guide to lockpicking", put $15 on a prepaid debit card, and buy some beginner picks from southord.com. If you have the time to devote to it, or if you just plain enjoy that sort of thing, it can be pretty cool.

^ or make the picks yourself

i made my first picks and picked my first lock with the picks i made.

a screwdriver is good for breaking weak locks, but it leave evidence.(but's it's quick, and a screwdriver is less likely to break)

If you aren't concerned with ruining a lock or safe's locking mechanism, a reccomended method of entry is a quiet, yet strong power drill, with a strong tip (possibly diamond, I've also heard good things about carbide). That will ruin the lock, so you can get in.

yeah this is a good idea for cars expeditions ford trucks 300's.

most all newer cars of that type.

plus if you manipulate your body language,

could be witnesses would just think your key is acting up and

since no one is a good samaritan no one will offer help.

the level of suspiciousness goes down a lot.

thus this can be done in broad daylight in parking lots under cameras.

as long as you don't jump out of another car to do it.

that is suspicious

I have no experience in this field, but I would say putting small amounts of thermite on the lock to make it easier to break, drilling the lock, or hammering the lock could work.

Assuming you will be able to sneak in there once and leave without leaving evidence of your coming in, and if it is just a combo lock, you could install a small camera somewhere in the room, and see what the combo is. (only do this if it is really worth it though, like some rich guy's money stash).

Of course then if that is the case, you could just put a gun to his head and force him to open it himself.

My advice is this: don't ask on totse.
Everything you've been told thus far sucks, aside Psionicist telling you to buy picks and learn to use them.

- Thermite will ruin anything useful inside the safe if you use enough to burn through. If you use too little, it'll just weld it shut making it worse. Furthermore, it takes a shitload of it to burn through a lock so you can't just "put a little in the lock". Not to mention the massive light show it puts on for everyone to see. Beginner's advice: never take anyone who touts thermite seriously. It's an instant kewl alert.

- Napalm doesn't burn metal. Even if you somehow managed to fill an entire building with it so it produced enough heat to actually... ah hell you can tell where this is going. Just no.

- You don't need a black light to see fucking pencil lead. You tap some graphite powder onto a keypad, shift it around, then gently blow it off to reveal the used keys in the combination. Depending on the safe brand, you can determine how many keys to punch in.

- You don't pick master locks with soda cans. You make shims from the soda cans and attempt to release the shackle with them. Completely different art.

Nobody serious about B&E is going to be around &TOTSE because it's full of kewls, cops, and regular old idiots. The few that are able to help you have long left, and if they do happened to come back to browse, they'll probably feel that helping you is a waste of time. So go elsewhere for your B&E info, like roguesci.org at the very least.
