Network (in)Security Interesting hacks and cracks. Info on firewalls, TCP/IP, encryption, networks, and security. The ins and outs of the phone system, caller services, how things work, what's illegal and what's not, cellular phones, beepers, telephony legislation, the PUC, ISDN, taps, who's listening, and switches. Talking about phones, hacking systems, technical advice, and such is completely LEGAL in the United States -- it's covered by the First Amendment. What's illegal is conspiracy to commit a crime. So if you say something like "Meet me at 2am so we can crack a can" or "I changed my cell phone's number myself" you are criminally liable. Stating "You can crack a can by doing thus-and-so" or "If you wanted to change a cell phone's number, you could do it like so" is perfectly OK. Posting passwords, calling card numbers, or credit card numbers is forbidden on this network. Posting such info will get you booted off the net.

Angry Websites that lock you in full screen

You know those ads that pop up and lock you in full screen so you have to type Alt+Tab to get out. They're driving me fuckin mad. Is there any way you can switch off something so websites can't put you in fullscreen and get rid of the panels and address bar and all that shit?

It should be illegal for websites to be able to do that without asking your permission. Before I knew you could press Alt+Tab or CTRL+Alt+c I used to have to restart my computer to get out of it.

Can't you just hit F11 to get out, too?

This never happens to me, as I have javascript denied by default.

It's better to get NoScript because it blocks other kinds of client-side executable content that can be just as damaging. It can also detect most XSS/XSRF attacks and gets updated quite often.

And, while this isn't a plus to everyone, it's GPLv2 free software.

Yea OP, download Firefox and install it. Then navigate over to the Firefox extension/add-on page and select the privacy/security tab. If you just choose the option on the far right called something like "most popular first"..normally all the rated good add-ons show up.

Adblock and NOscript will be amongst those. Personally I have both of them installed, as adblock gets rid off all the ads and noScript prevent scripts from being activated. Also sometimes you might find the occasional ad on somebody's website and you can just right click and filter it out with Adblock and Adblock should allways remember it.

Also the other day i was browsing the internet and came across a site that tickled my fancy, actually it was just a site which had a lot of content available for download, similar to a warez site. During the browsing i noticed NOscript popped up, so i look down and there must of been about literally 56 scripts being blocked. I was like woah, that has to be by far the most I have come across so far

However .going back to the topic, I haven't seen a pop up add for ages because of these features combined with Firefox.

I use Ubuntu so all I use is firefox and the popup blocker stops nearly every popup except for a few. For some reason this Online Poker ad always pops up on this particular site but that one doesn't completely disable all the Firefox functions it just gets rid of the address bar.

The one that was pissing me off when I made this thread was every I went to this german rapidshare style site I was downloading porn off this ad popped up and got rid of all the menu panels even the one with the "File - Edit - View History...". It pissed me off because after I closed it every time I opened up firefox after that the menu's and address bar were gone. I had to restart the comp to get it all back. Its obviously because I have javascript enabled.

I find when I go to certain sites I can't do things without enabling javascript so I just leave it on. Is there alot of harm that can be caused by leaving javascript enabled? I know javascript can swipe your cookies and shit like that but can they do anything that would actually be a threat to me?

Use two different profiles, one with javascript enabled, and the other with javascript disabled.
It's that simple...

To answer your question, javascript is limited to what your browser can do.

You don't have to visit the rapidshare site if you have a premium account. Go to your account settings and make sure you check the setting called "direct downloads" switch it on.

Then all you have to do is copy the RS link and paste it in the url bar and it will download it via the little firefox download manager. However, you still have to sign into rapidshare while doing this.

But of course, you can just download a download manager like "aria" for ubuntu that supports code recognition, save your RS user name & password within the program and paste all your url links within "aria" and it will automatically download them all for you, without having you go anywhere near the rapidshare site. This works only if you have a premium account though.

Also rapidshare has some good shemale porn, if you're in to that stuff (not that i am)
