Cashing a check twice...?
My friend the other week was in a curious predicament. In a long stroy short, He went to the bank to cash his workcheck, and the bank cashed his check but forgot to actually TAKE his check away from him. Is he safe to cash the same check from a different bank or such?

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
I think they'd find out when they run it through the system

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
Who would find out though? If the bank never took the check... there should be no record of it?

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
Uhm
The check number would come up as previously done, and the bank which owns the account will mark it as a fraudalant withdrawal.
You can try, and see what happens--no harm in that as long as they didn't mark it. If they did, then it's void.

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
Just did some asking, he tells me the bank didn't touch the check, therefore there's no marks, nothing. I'm not sure what they could have run through the system.

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
Realize that when that check was "cashed", money was withdrawn from your employer's account to cover it. Use the same check twice, and someone in accounting may pick up on it, depending on how thorough they are.
Once they notice the withdrawal, it depends on exactly how much of your information the bank got when they cashed it. That trail leads directly to you, if it exists.
If they catch you, you'll not only lose your job, but probably be prosecuted for check fraud as well, and you'll look mighty dumb trying to cop the excuse that you didn't know you couldn't.

Re: Cashing a check twice...?
Try cashing it again. If they give you shit just tell them that your lost track of which checks you cashed, and SINCE YOU STILL HAD THIS ONE, YOU FIGURED YOU OBVIOUSLY MUST NOT HAVE CASHED IT. They'll apologize for the mistake, you'll lol, they'll lol, etc.
