Default question for lifelong daily bud smokers

this question is for people who have been consistently smoking bud for over a decade.

have you truly experienced any of the proverbial negative effects of weed? have you had your cognitive abilities reduced, have 'amotivational syndrome', or any of the like?

OP RESPONSE:

thanks for insightful views if you gave them.
i knew totse was where to go to find a few longterm smokers to tell their opinions.

i have found in my experience with smoking bud that smoking at the end of the day was best. i did this for about a year, smoking nearly every night. mainly to quell my insomnia, but to enjoy it too. smoking this way didnt cause me to adapt a poor stoner diet, didnt cause amnesia, and didnt cause my grades to die. all it did was provide soething to look forward to and do.

however, the last few weeks of this summer i experimented a little, and smoked all day every day. i had no shit to do, had money, so why not? anyway, i do remember that in that block of time i did have forgetful moments, but that was all they were, moments. like i was groping at the door in the dark looking for the knob once, and i breifly freaked out thinking that the doorknob was gone. to my amusement, i looked and saw it on the other side of the door.

so to stay sharp i only smoke at night. and thus far, i must commend god and nature for making this beautiful product.

My dad's 46 and been smoking bud since he was 12. He's basically head of a telecommunications company, and someone who I have incredible respect for. I don't think he's had a reduction in his abilities but then again I'm not him.

Sorry this isn't too helpful, but I thought I'd contribute what I can.

love to hear some answers.

If that makes sense...

Memory loss...

You just have to write shit down all the time so you don't forget, no biggie. Post-it notes are handy.

He's talking about people who brag about how dumb they are due to smoking pot, as if that makes them cool.

It isnt really that hard to smoke pot on a daily basis without letting it become your main focus of every day.

Fuck writing shit down, I am too lazy to write down every little thing, I never have and never will. Eat nootropics.

I've always had an excellent memory anyway, and though smoking pot does affect it a bit sometimes, what significant memory problems I do have, are not caused by marijuana, but rather chemical deficiencies in my diet. I am working on it. The memory loss from pot is minimal, and is always overcome almost immediately. "where the fuck are my keys?" and within a minute, "oh yeah, my pocket"

Just minor stupid little things like that, no big deal. It's because your mind is on other things, which is a side effect of the pot, but ya gotta think risk vs benefit. So what if you lose your keys for a minute? The other things your mind is working on are a bit more important, provided you aren't a total drooling jackass. Or maybe it's just me. My mind is always working.

As to my experience with marijuana, it's been like 14 years and going strong. My reasons for smoking have changed, but my love of the herb has only grown.

I gotta admit, thats a pretty sweet way of looking at it. I can relate to how pot doesn't really make you absent minded, your focus is just placed on other things...same amount of cognitive activity, just in a different direction.

Though I have stopped for months at a time, I've more or less been smoking since 1981.

If you consistently smoke pot over time you are bound to experience some kind of detrimental effects as nothing is without it's downsides in the world. Some avid pot smokers try and talk like pot has nothing bad about it and it can do no wrong but after they've experienced years of smoking it even they usually tend to accept that it isn't perfect.

As far as memory loss and that type of thing is concerned it really depends on the person and how well you take care of yourself. Nootropics are a good start to keep your mind/memory healthy.

Body health can also take a hit if you aren't careful due to the munchies and a general laziness and desire to just lay around. Exercising a couple of times a week and trying to eat at least semi-healthy can do wonders with that.

The worst side effect i've experienced over the years is in my lungs. As with smoking anything else pot will not be doing your lungs any kind of good...but the remedy for that only requires common sense. Cook that shit.

Yet again...good god son. I'm starting to think you've fallen for me. What is that, oh yeah, EVERY THREAD I'VE POSTED IN that you've quoted me and made a poor attempt at trash talk.

Also, considering the OP's question was very BASIC in nature and asked about the DETRIMENTAL effects of long term use my post was relevant as can be.

Nootropics are smart drugs..brain candy.

Here (http://www.erowid.org/smarts/smarts.shtml) is a good place to start researching them.

If I smoke daily for a long period I get memory loss, lack of motivation, paranoia, loss of social skills. Once I stop all of the above get worse for a few days along with appetite loss but after a week all the negative effects are completely gone.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention appetite loss after stopping...I usually get nausea for about a week or two and basically have to make myself eat. But as stated above it usually clears up in a week or two.

The only negative effects ive noticed are excessive coughing all the time, hacking up alot of phlegm, and very very very bad memory recall. By that I mean like when you try to remember an event in your head, and you visualize it, I cant. I dont forget things during the moment, but I do forget just about everything I did the day(s) before. I guess I could remember but its alot harder because I really have to focus my mind on remembering. Its usually easy to remember significant events, but conversations with people are always forgotten, its bad. I can be told something important in the morning and when its told to me again later in the day I have no idea it was told to me, I do listen very well too. Its usually small things that I forget though.

Have you ever given Nootropics a try? Sounds like you could use some Ginko and the like...

The only real problem I have with memory is peoples names, I can't remember them for shit.

nothing major at least, sure when your high some stupid shit you'll forget or something will be on the tip of your tounge only to remember it hours later when its no longer relevant to the moment, but chances are that'd happen without pot too...

if you found that smoking at nite is your best option, then do it. that way when you blaze the day away it still means something, call it a mind vacation...

Man okay.. a few things..

I know a few lifelong daily weed smokers.

One was my grandpa, who is now dead from lung shit, but he smoked alot of cigs too. He wasn't rich or anything, but he was chill, pretty wise and was well-liked. Okay in my book.

The other one is my friend's dad, he does okay, same deal, etc.

But my motto is "I'm high when I'm high, I'm not when I'm not"

Of course this shit isn't true, because there are residual effects, but I think I have intelligence to spare, so I don't give a fuck.

uhh i smoke 3-4 times daily and at least 1 blunt a day...started at 14...i have stopped for short periods of time.

its a lie to say that weed doesnt change you. it changes the way you think, and i feel like my conscience has somewhat diminished. by that, i mean those little voices in your head go away, at least for me anyway. memory isnt that good either.

of course those things are overshadowed by how happy it makes me. you realize after awhile that you have a better life than all these sober people around you and in the end its all the same, we all are going to die.

sorry if none of this made sense.

I know people like this. It's like it's all part of the image, and for some reason beyong my grasp, they are literally willing to ruin their lives in order to cultivate that image. I think maybe it starts off that way but eventually they lose any other identity, so that just becomes their reality. Silly bints.

I've been a daily smoker for a few months now (and a regular smoker for much longer). This has led to some changes in my life good and bad.

The bad first-
1. I experience some withdrawal symptoms if I don't smoke first thing in the morning. After a day or so they go away but I usually smoke way before then. During this time it is pretty difficult to stay sober. I rate this as the worst bad thing because I can easily see that marijuana has addictive potential. I'm not saying smoking weed is addictive, just that it can very easily become a habit for many people.

2. I get congested frequently in my chest and sinuses which I usually remedy with a decongestant and a little bit of fresh air. These symptoms I only experience after heavy smoking but can last several hours after my last toke.

The good-
1. It eliminates depression, stress, insomnia, boredom, pain, nausea, etc. Pot will make you feel good even when your feeling your worst. Some times people just need a chance to take a break from the day and relax. It can do wonders for your peace of mind. Its the only medicine that heals your body and your mind.

its just marijuana, this world has so many things in it. some people just settle for the first good feeling they catch, sadly most of them catch this feeling when they smoke up. yeah its cool to just smoke weed and forget about your problems, but it doesn't make them go away. another thing, sure it crosses the mind a lot when i dont smoke, but after a few days its ten times easier to get through the day without looking forward to the next green hit. while weed helps me not feel the wrath of my problems, it also helps me not feel awesome when something really good is happening.....

for instance, when im flirting with a girl and she is really digging me, when im not high i get all fuzzy inside and i feel a connection but when im high i never even get to that point and i dont even care enough to work my way there.

its ok to smoke weed as long as you get where you are going, but if you let it consume you, like many people have said, its not a drug you should be doing on the regular.

Wow, I should probably re-read my posts before I actually post them.

Like, where they're all like "HEY! I smoke pot, look at me, I'm so stupid hahah 'cause I smoke pot! See how I dont let my life go anywhere? It's 'cause of the pot, huh? I bet it is!"

If that makes sense...

I hate people like that. All of the hick's kids in my town have turned into wiggers and are like that.

Have you ever given Nootropics a try? Sounds like you could use some Ginko and the like...

The only real problem I have with memory is peoples names, I can't remember them for shit.

I tried taking pharmaceutical grade fish oil (omega 3?) large pills... took a few a day for about a week but I got lazy and stopped taking them, I dont know if they helped or not. My memory has turned to utter SHIT after all my weed use. The worst thing though is all my coughing, I dont know if I just have bad lungs or not but I have been coughing every day really badly for months and months now.

Hey, my Grandma has Phenyotin!

You gonna steal some?

You know you want to.....

The worst thing though is all my coughing, I dont know if I just have bad lungs or not but I have been coughing every day really badly for months and months now.

I smoke daily, and used to smoke cigarettes (go self!) and have never had an issue with chronic coughing.

Maybe smoke with something different? I smoke with a pipe and I still get a kinda shitty feeling in my throat in the morning after a particularly long session.
