| Politics: Left, Right, and Center National, state, regional, and local politics. Who's doing what to whom, and what you can do about it. How-to-get-action messages are encouraged. "How the government fucked up my life" stories are encouraged. Sharing new methods for cheating on taxes is encouraged. Sample "letters to congresscritters" are encouraged. Apathy and "I can't do anything" posts are discouraged. Left, right, centrist, or any other form of political-economic systems are all up for discussion. Be prepared to defend yourself, or at least have a good line of bullshit ready. Extensive quoting of economists and philosophers is frowned upon. We want to hear what YOU have to say, not what some constipated, impotent, dead guy dreamt up while suffering from the DT's over a hundred years ago thought. |

War on terror: A war with no end?
The way i see it this war will never end.
All the other wars we could put a face on our enemy.
They were either Nazis, Kamikaze's, or the Rebels and Yanks
But now, the people we are fighting look like the people were trying to save. I don't see how this can end. My opinion dropping the Nuke would be very risky sense America couldn't STFU and everyones got one =/

It's more to do with the fact that you can't defeat an idealogy using physical violence, and that clumsy modern warfare ensures civilian casualties, giving more propaganda for the other side to use for recruitment.
It will end; but only when the coalition realise they can't win it and make their excuses and leave.

"leaving" won't end the terrorists' war on us.
There are still Nazis around. There are still communists around. We defeated their ability to wage meaningful war, and we can do the same against the terrorists. There may always be radical Islam, but so what?

Re: War on terror: A war with no end?
Radical Islamist militants never had a "meaningful ability to wage war" in the conventional sense, as was the case in Vietnam. In order to "win" the War on Terror you would have to either erradicate every single terrorist or stop giving them fuel to hate your country. There is absolutely no chance of either of those happening while we are still at war.

Not at all. Destroy command and control, continue to kill and capture as many terrorists as you can, freeze assets, etc.

And we can eradicate every single terrorist when we're not at war?

Re: War on terror: A war with no end?
The war on terror is a smokescreen for imperial acts. The idea is that if you can get away with labeling someone a terrorist, then it is suddenly OK to invade the region they are in. So the war will end when it can no longer be used as a justification.

Re: War on terror: A war with no end?
honestly aside from the campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan, the war on terror has been unsuccessful because of a lack of reliance on the CIA and Special forces to do the job.
We don't need big army campaigns, we need quick surgical strikes, assassinations and out of the blue surprise attacks, from not only ground forces, but the Navy and Air Force as well.
This includes hurting the drug trade in any way we can, the drug trade finances terrorism (example cocaine funds FARC, there are plenty more too). In short, if you didn't grow it, and don't know where it comes from, don't smoke it.
Finally, it requires not only a ready force of trained assassins, but the cooperation of other nations on the topic.
But all of this must not be used to facilitate intolerable acts, and oppress people -> this will only hurt the legitimacy of the war on terror.
That's how I think we can win the war on terror.

Re: War on terror: A war with no end?
Hey, grats op, you're only about five years behind the rest of us in figuring this out. Well done on finally getting there though! A for effort.
